Tree Rat

Recommended Posts

went for a nice spring walk today with the gun around the local permision but was surprised how quiet it was, hardly any Pigeons coming in and the one's that did was across the other woods, never saw any squirrels until I finally ventured back home. I watched this one climb down the trunk and down onto the floor a good 100 or so Yards away, for once I took my time and tried to put a Tree between me and him for cover, it took me ages to get within range without making to much noise but I finaly got there! once settled I thought he'll come into view soon for a shot but nope I waited and waited and waited but nothing, I could hear him russling about on the floor but still no shot! it seemd like forever when he finally run round the side of the tree and up the trunk, he must of got a good half way and stopped for a few seconds to have a Gawp at me....

anyway the rest is history! I shot he dropped and he was in the bag, it turns out he was a she and pretty small to say the least, she was hit just under the cheek and exited behind the top back of the head, being a old fart the walk home was a killer with cramp and pins ands needles through crouching in the same position for so long but I felt I earned this one and enjoyed matching wits with the little T**t thumbs.gif...

I'm soooooo jealous

I want some land with these furry feckers on it :search:

A friend of mine is a chef at an old folks home in a little town not far from here.

The place is over run with the fur coated meat running up and down all over the grounds.

I offered to thin em out for FREE, but the fooking old gits like the cute things and wont let me go get em.

Told em, I'll pop em, skin em and cook em, then they can pay to have the hides preserved and they can have one in every room ;)

Still a no go <_<

Good shooting mate!

Phantom I am in a similar position. I know somebody who owns a holiday sort of park thing, infested with squirrels and they bloody catch them in traps then drown them?! Well, they get the innocent car taker to do it I'm told... I would nail them for free also but the place is nearly constantly booked so they wont have me walking about with the gun. Maybe wil contact and say if they get a empty week then the squizzer busters will move in :)

Sounds like you can have some good sport there Phantom if he changes his mind yes.gif. this place is at plague proportion! it seems no one has ever thinned them out or controlled them in any way....

I had to move some squirrels and pigeons out of the big freezer earlier into a smaller one to make room for some Day Old Chicks! I have been averaging around 3-4 a week which soon starts to fill the freezer up, all shot from a small copse woodland near the house....

Jack you could try pointing out that its against the law under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 to drown any animal. Causing unnessesary suffering. They could be prosecuted.

I enjoy eating some of the Pigeons and had some last Sunday and ate a squirrel a couple of times when we was lads but not since then, although as I remember they're not that bad.....

there's some good skins there to make some decent size Willy warmers!! I'll save the small squirrel for yours mate laugh.gif.....

Hello Neil

Them MTC scopes are nice pal! the optics seem pretty good and the reticle is spot on, the only thing that is bothering me is the Windage adjustment on this one is alot tighter than the elevation, its hard to feel the click with with any adjustment...

The gun is shooting spot on pal, had a little problem when the shroud came loose but re-tapped it out to 2mm and stuck a couple of new grubs in it and its now going nowhere, there a few I have been reading had the same problems with the Wolfs too, for some reason Daystate stuck 1/8 AF Grubs to hold it in place, its now taped out Metric....

Don't forget to give me a shout soon pal over the spring and summer...

clapper.gifclapper.gifclapper.giflaugh.gif I didn't want to say anything mate..............

Here's another song birds nest saved from a tree rat...

this one died pretty instant, my lad popped him out of the drey with a nice placed .22 Pellet from a old Webley Vulcan and he was off running through the canopy of the trees, my lad kept underneath him stopping him from going to ground until he paused for a second or two 3/4's the way up a fir tree, I have to admit I'm pleased with this one as the Pellet struck him virtually between the eyes and pole drived through his cranium and way into his neck and shoulders...
