Both eyes open?

Was shooting pigeons at a farm with a mate the other day when he asked me how I could shoot with both eyes open. Told him this is what I always do as it allows me to see the quarry through the other eye making it easier to see where it falls. I have always shot my rifle with both eyes open. I am right eye dominant. What does every one else do? Do you close one eye or keep both eyes open? Why?

 

By the way tried h and n field for the first time today, they are a bit more accurate than my usual accupell. Trajectory is almost the same too. Not such a nice tin though Will probably change to the h and n now, if my local sports shop keeps supplying them.

shit thats what im doing wrong i thought it was both eyes closed .... what ever works best for you is the way to go mate my daughter shoots with both eyes open she also under cocks the rifle (her trigger hand never moves her support hand comes under the gun and she cocks it sniper style

Eye eye, Depends.

Shoot both eyes open during the day, but on an evening, I tend to close the left as the lamps from the street tends to make my eyes go funny.

i was always led to believe,one eye open with a rifle,both open with a shotgun reason being,with rifle its a static target,with shotgun and both eyes open you get better all round vision to help calculate distance,movement ect

With a scope I shoot with both eyes open because it allows you to acquire the target faster and it means I can quickly go from looking through the scope to have a wide point of view (no scope) without having to move my head or rifle.

 

However I find when target shooting with a peep sight I have to close my left eye.

Rifle, I mostly close my left eye (right handed and eye) but not totaly.

 

Shotgun, both eyes open always, as has beem said.

 

Vinagar stroke, dunno. Busy...

Both eyes open for me too. Though closing one eye (generally the left ) also works.

 

Oh and way to lower the tone beggsy.
