It always puzzeld me abit as the old poachers used to be of the opinion that keepers had something to do with black rabbits that if they went they new poachers were operating in the area.I believe it to be true that they put white pheasents down for that reason though i remember shooting 3 of them at roost in the bad old days and a very well known lurcher man doing the same wood later and it came on top for him but luckily he got away

a few years ago on an estate i keepered on,we released white cocks but to see how far they wandered plus the fine if a syndicate or paying gun shot one=50 notes! but there was always one wealthy shit bag that did so on purpose

This week they have released 50.0000 young eels into a river complex in the north to try and regenerate stocks it is estimated that the european eel population as dropped by 95%

 

this will only help on the short term as all common eels are born in the Sargasso sea

The elvers that were released were born in the Sargasso sea and will go there to breed and then return (that's the plan anyway)

Why square plates?

they were made of wood and it was for stacking and not sliding about.seen it on a tony robinson show abot nelson

The ships carpenter would make plates for the crew and the easiest way to make a plate was to cut a square section piece of wood. Square shaped plates could be stowed away easily and wooden ones would not break irrespective of how violent the ships movement might become. There was no sort of turning machine to make round plates and that would have been seen as an unnecessary expense.
