Treacle Trackpad 6
I'm going out to visit a few farms this weekend to try and get some fox and Roe shooting, and it got me wondering what other people say when they 'door step' a farmer . What are your successful lines so I can perfect my technique? "Eyup cocker, can I shoot yer deer?" Quote Link to post
trapper123 7
just ask if you can do some hunting and if you have some spare time on your hands offer to do some odd jobs in return such as repairing gates fences or just tidying up i find this works a treat good luck. Quote Link to post
black lab 3
Introduce youself[sell yourself] and if you have any shooting permission near by, ask him if he knows Joe Bloggs down the road as you shoot there, if you have any qualifications DSC 1&2 ect just have a chat and let him know what kind of person you are, and your willing to do the odd job around the farm just to help if needed, ask him if he has any problems with Vermin on his land? ie Foxes, Rabbits ect and go in slowly dont ask about Deer right away, until you get to know the Farmer, because he might like to see them walking around, not everybody likes to see them getting shot, and if you say "can i shoot them" you might get his back up do a good job on the Vermin first, then when you get to know him better you may be rewarded, take it slow, thats how i aquired a lot of my land hope this helps you out, Wullie. FightTheBan 1,147
I work on a farm, and once you get into a farming conversation, they very rarely turn you town. LOL hence i have shit loads of permission and not enough time to do it all . I can only suggest you try and talk to them on their level, most arent interested in deer or foxes and therefor you are asking the favour (with the exeption of sheep farmers). If you have permission elsewhere in the area, this also helps massively. Getting your foot in the door is the hardest part, sometimes the offer of a service you can provide helps (i.e are you any good and mole catching, fencing etc). Just start by saying where you currently shoot, for whom and that you are wishing to expand the area you have - see how it goes. Most of them are genuinely decent people and if they dont want you on they will have their reasons. And dont start door knocking arount a built up area, as most farmers are plauged with tossers in areas such as this. FTB Quote Link to post
langouroux 14
there is no right or wrong way to go about it! if you are polite and easy to talk to then the farmer will generaly tell you his pest / vermin woes and tales to chikens going missing etc, and then your in! i peronsally dress normally(no camo)and i have a folder with all my qualifications, FAC & SGC, and more importantly a copy of my BASC insurance...which is usually the deal maker! along with a few photos of stuff i have shot. if they still aint interested after that...they never will be. i find picking up ground quite easy but then cornwall is a pretty chilled place to live and so are the people. peace Quote Link to post
Treacle Trackpad 6
Some good tips there lads. Pretty much the way I approach things already but good to pick up more tricks of the trade Quote Link to post
Leicester hunter 0
Dont go at meal times or on a Sunday. Although most farmers work on Sundays, its still their peace day. They work very hard and do not want disturbing on the little time they have with their families. Good luck Quote Link to post
