woodga 170
well sunday saw me and young markg out again two ferrets, spade, nets, the lurcher and terrier and away for the hour long ride to have some fun before the end of the ferreting season which for me will be next sunday , the ferrets can have a well deserved rest and get fat again :whistling2: any way on arrival we saw a few rabbits sitting in a small paddock just beside the farm house this padock runs along the banks of the south tyne and very picturesque although prone to flooding in bad weather. the terrier quickly found and marked the first set of the day nets were layed but nothing so the first of many digs on this warm muggy day we even took it in turns to dig :whistling2: at nearly every sett they just would not bolt today the funnyest thing we saw was us missing two rabbits from unseen holes which were a good few yards from the sett. while i was talkng to the farmer :blush-anim-cl:. both bolted and the terrier was after one sam was after the other we actually thought they were away but blaze turned his rabbit after a 100yrd chase back towards us no less than three times back and forth this rabbit was desperately trying to get back into the warren we actually hoped it would try because we still had nets down . but the rabbit suddenly clapped in some long grass . blaze was running the scent and picked it brilliantly from the seat much to our pleasure after watching this chase for nearly five minutes :laughbounce2:. blaze then went along the river bank and caught the second escapee under some blackberry bushes the nose on this little dog amazes me at time,s . sam had a rabbit under pressure after a dicey chase along the treeline but just missed his connection as this rabbit went to ground only to be picked up by lifting the sod on a previous dig . waiting for abolt which never came and the inevitable dig this is the same sett this time digging to the second ferret which also had a kill at just over 4.5ft looking down ito the hole the ferret looking back at me the little bas@rd we got the rabbit after nearly half an hour of pecking through hard clay and stones young mark checking to see if another rabbit is in the stop end no rabbit there so we back filled and set off again and again more bloody digging lol time to call it a day. 19 rabbits the end result todays rabbit were hard won even though we did not get a big bag we both enjoyed the dayand the spade got a nice shiney shaft with all the digging :laughbounce2: cheers mark 3 Quote Link to post
