cooper101 86
i get phonecalls on a weekly basis from lads wanting to take there dogs out on my permission with me as they have never bothered to get any thereselves. a true story from last season, i picked a younger lad up who i knew was out alot with his group of mates and there dogs, as he was complaining all the time that he never got to have a decent night out lamping without getting into trouble!! so when i went to pick him up he was standing in his old trainers and old set of trackie bottoms and a hoodie and a fairly healthy looking bullx with a few other bits in the mix i thought, but he swore diffrent!! anyways straight away i thought this was going to be a mistake but not wanting to judge him on apperance i took him to a close friends fields away from my usual hunting ground as there are sheep on mine even though he swore his dog was stock broken !! i let him run his dog on the first rabbit after the dog missed i switched the lamp off and waited for the return of his dog!! the lad then starts shouting almost screaming for his dog i was cringing by this point!! so knowing this and the surronding fields were going to have been cleared by the noise he made i asked him about when he had stock brocken his dog?? he replied dont worry i'll pull him off if he gets one!!!! WTF i was ready to go home at this point but knew there wasnt livestock about so i carried on so i could give blue a run!! a few fields later i had an awkward fence that i had to climb over and when he saw me struggle on the barb wire he decided to produce a set of snips to cut the barb wire fence!! i told him straight at this point that thats a pratish thing to do and that if the field had livestock in what would keep them in?? he replied we allways do it [bANNED TEXT] we go out, saves the dogs getting cut up on the sh*t!! i am allways willing to help people out who have taken the time to learn about the sport and respect the land but with these kinds of idiots about is it any wonder people think less of lurchermen than any other field sport!! thought id share that story with you as my mate whos farm it was on!! was on the fone this morning and one of his gates had been left open and the sheep were roaming the farm this morning!! lol thought id had been out there!!! Hollie 21
These are the sort of people that the general public think of when someones says 'lurcherwork' it is sad really that idiots like this give the Lurcherworld a bad name, if you work dogs you should respect the land and respect any catch you are lucky enough to bag, any decent person knows that you don't cut fences, leave gates open etc etc, the main word here is RESPECT or lack of it Quote Link to post

FightTheBan 1,147
Hullhunter is spot on. How can it be the lads fault if he has never been taught right from wrong. I blame the people who pump out pups the give them out like sweeties. These people have no respect for the wellbeing of the animals, nor the name of the sport. If working dogs were only sold to people who knew what they were doing/those who had people to learn the right ways off of, the sport would not be full of scum. FTB Quote Link to post
FightTheBan 1,147
"well as the saying gos you always learn by your mistakes " Sorry if you dont agree mate, but alot of people dont. If this lad goes on as he is it wont be long before he is driving through fields and dragging lurcher works name through the mud with him. Farmers dont hate dogmen for no reason, previous bad experiences have taught them they are never to be trusted. And in some cases they are right, others couldnt be further from the truth. 1 Quote Link to post
