J Darcy 5,871
Interesting thread...... What is a cocker? Let's say you bred a litter from the local "world beater" , a dog that has done pretty well locally. But upon an invite down to the Fens he gets slipped on some of the very best quarry in the UK. Misses the first two then cocks on the third as he approaches some gamecover. The dog knew it had no chance as it simply wasn't good enough. What do you do?.... OR.....Another scenario..you bred a litter from a five season good, honest dog. But he starts pulling short in his sixth season, then starts jacking on hedges. What do you do? IMO they can all be made to "jack". Getting them to stash is the easy bit, keeping a dog running throughout the season, making good catches, without it stashing is the hard part... Its about as much to do with the man as the dog itself. Not in all cases granted, but in a good number. They can all be made to jack if the dogs mind isnt kept in a confident manner by its owner.....Incidentally, i do think that in most instances cocking/jacking is a mental rather than physical issue..... Good thread chaps.... JD Quote Link to post

JD ID SAY THAT A DOG THAT HAD SAY 5 OR 6 SEASONS HARD RUNNING COULDNT REALLY BE CLASSED AS A COCKER AS DOGS ARE NOT MACHINES & IT WOULD CERTAINLY BE TIRED PHYSICALLY AS WELL AS MENTALLY. I MEAN YOU DONT BUY A CAR THAT HAS HIGH MILEAGE DO YOU & EXPECT THE BEST FROM IT. ALL DOGS CAN COCK IF GIVEN 2 MUCH OR IN THE HANDS OF AN IDIOT. IM REFFERING 2 THOSE DOGS THAT SHOW AT THE START THAT THEY DONT QUITE HAVE THE HEART 4 THE GAME EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE BEEN PROPERLY REARED & GIVEN A DECENT START IN LIFE. Quote Link to post
