one my mates just of the phone most upset was out with his dogs was a man with a spaniel and a gun think his dog went to other side of the burn and started to fight with the spaniel and hes shot the dog is that ok to do or there must have been other way to resolve he sounded well gutted cant be right or get away with this surely

What sort of gun? Strange way to break up a dog fight, risk of hitting the spaniel too I'd have thought.

its like most things mate,would need to hear the whole story and exactly how it happened to make a judgement,we would all say if someone else shot my dog we would f*****g shoot them but if i was out and a dog attacked my little terrier,and i could not get it under control for what ever reason then i to may well shoot the other dog,although im sure this is prob illegal

My immediate reaction is that the guy who shot the dog was way out of order. You should see a solicitor tomorrow (29/02/10). You can have a half hour consultation on Legal Aid.

Take it this was on private property and the spaniel man was'nt just wandering round in public with a gun? When you say he was "out with his dog" was he on permission? Atb

Well i know one thing, if he shot my dog, the twat would be in [A.E] for 2 weeks witha bust leg .YOUR DOG CAN [ONLY] BE SHOT FOR SHEEP WORRYING,FACT. so you would be in your rights to defend you+dog, and break his feckin leg's

It's called criminal damage, and should be reported to the police straight away.

 

The only legitimate reason to shoot a dog is if it is in the act of worrying livestock, and even then, it can only be used as a last resort.

 

Get it reported, and don't take any direct action.

surly the guy who shot the dog would be at risk of loosing his guns for firing on a dog like that? sheep worrying is a different thing a farmers got the right to shoot a dog and they have to phone the police to inform them but this sounds well suss!
