Leicester hunter 0
Well, like a bus you wait for a permission for ages, then they all come at once!! I am currently applying for my FAC, (after getting my first permission) and still do a lot of lamping with my air rifle. (on other small permissions). Late last week i got given some more permission, and last night i had a wander about to see whats what. The air was mild, and a gentle SW breeze enabled me to creep into the permission to my advantage. After a couple of flicks with the lamp, the returning sight was that of many a pair of red dots. Superb i thought, at least theres rabbits! I continued to walk about, unnoticed, and found the cause of the rabbits, a large set, right in the middle of a very juvinile field of rape. I carried on walking the perimeter when suddenly i heard the shreech of a fox. I ducked down into the hedgerow, and proceeded to try out my newly found method of squeeking. After 5 or so minutes, another flash of the lamp revelaed the rabbits were still there oblivious to what was going on, But as yet, no fox. I continued to squeek, varying my pitch and duration, when suddenly from 150 yards away at the bottom of the field, 2 amber lights caught my attention. I know the location of this land well, and at the far end there is an estate riddled with foxes which backs onto a small brook. I turned the lamp off, and squeeked again. The calling fox had now stopped, and when i flashed the lamp again, 2 foxes were running up the hill of the field. I carried on squeeking, and finially ended up with the 2 foxes approx 60 yards directly in front of me. The rabbits were still in the area, owing the the perfect wind direction. I was over the moon! I walked back to my van one happy bunny i can tell you. Roll on my FAC, and since speaking to the farmer, he has said that i can have permission to use FAC on his land (already passed for my calibre) I am returning tonight with the airgun to have a go at a few rabbits, but will look out for the foxes again! Treacle Trackpad 6
I wouldn't go out squeeking/lamping for foxes unless you are equipped to shoot them there and then, they learn fast and will give you a wide berth next time round. Squeek em and kill em, not squeek em and have a look at em. Keep away until you are kitted up my friend If you get any rabbits, open them up and leave out for Charlie to keep him around. JohnGalway 1,043
Had a similar chat with a friend of a friend. He goes out, and still persists doing so, and calls foxes in and only brings the lamp! Makes them wise to the lamp and call. Quote Link to post
