howa 243 advice

Ive got a HOWA 1500 with laminate thumbhole and varmint barrel and love it although it is damn heavy. I looked at some fully synth howas when i bought mine and must say they did look nice utility rifles. I only bought mine because it was a good deal, in the abscence of the one i bought then i would have bought one of the synthetic howas without a shadow of a doubt. never shot the synthetic one but my howa groups brilliantly even with factory 100 grainers

 Bought Howa 1500 Stainless synthetic a year ago as first full bore rifle. Have found it to be very accurate. Friends of mine who have stalked for some years felt if was v/good build quality and action (one likened it to his much more expensive Sako!!! As an entry level gun one budget I`ve no regrets.

My only concern with the Howa's, has been lack of a detachable mag. This may not be an issue for some, but my mags are in /out/in/out/in/out. To be honest it wouldn't suit me.

My own feeling is that I would get lazy, this may not apply to you or others, only to my own situation. I always look for a detachable mag.

I am sure it will shoot straight, have no quality problems etc.

I can understand what you say about it not having a detachable mag and the safety aspect but i've found it to be no hinderance at all. All i do is poke 3 shells in then hold down the top one while sliding bolt forward. When an oppurtunity arises you simply need to chamber a round as you would do with a detachable mag.

thats what i do with the winchester. simple and no worry about losing a mag.

I am in to a routine on in /out of vehicles all the time. Before I get in to a vehicle..I always cycle the bolt in front of my lamping partner to prove the rifle is empty..who ever that it may be. I have been doing this for the best part of 20 years, It is in my routine and muscle memory.

I also expect anyone shooting with me to do the same.

As I said, it may not be a problem for some, just mewink.gif
