why do people not listen to advice

Recommended Posts

I currently own one lurcher my first lurcher and prob my last for many years

because i dont have time or space for another i listend to all i could and stuck to advice so why do people insist on starting their dog at 7 8 9 months old even younger. the dogs still a pup and still wants to act like one then they post topics my dog doing this my dog doing that yet all the advice says dont start your dog to young then they get a slating on here. two mins later another thread i took my pup out lastnite 8 mnth old :icon_eek:

i just dont get it im sure there are dogs that could handle it at that age but it would take a very experianced lurcherman to know that is the right time when i was training my dog i took him out at 10 months

training him fetching a dummy rabbit pulling it on lamp and he wasnt interested. at 12 month there was a big change and i took him out but he didnt see the rabbits or wasnt interested a month after this all changed again this time there was no stopping him he was 13 months old thats when he got entered i just believe there is to much starting dogs young dog doesnt do this and that then its up for sale at 12 months old and another bought if people take the time to learn and listen more im only a novice and i just dont get it

lurcher for sale cmw bit back great all rounder top on lamp 8 month old wtf :wallbash:

if novices just listen a little bit more im sure dogs wouldnt be up for sale all time but there no telling some people sorry for going off on one but it pisses me off all

very true some people just do not have the patience try starting them to young and they start yapping or just not interested and they then sell them thinking they are no good i ahve a 9 month whippet and i have not started any thing yet with him about 10 11 month old i will try and get some easy slips for him. but having said all that i know people that has started them around 9 month and they have truned out good dogs

All i ever do is walk my dogs and let them decide for themselves when its the right time. If a rabbit gets up and they go for it then great and if they dont go for it i dont care. The older, more experienced ones will go for it but there just terriers so not much chance of catching! Lol!! Sooner or later the lurcher pup will think to himself "i can do better then those short legged little twats" and next time a rabbit gets up he will go for it and hey presto, a dog thats not put under any pressure does what i want in his own time and gets praised for it and so does it again!

The truth of it is, all pups will mature at different ages, smaller ones quicker then large breeds, Is not a competition ,If ya want to do something with the dog when he becomes 7,8,9,months old, train him..for younger lurcher owners, get a book and try to learn about how a dog learns, that way you have some understanding of the canine mind..

held my whippet x grey back till she was 15mts old but had sume netted rabbits at 11mts

started my bitch at 8 month thought it was the right time as she had been showing interest on the daytime bunnies for around a month she did well caught 1 or 2 out of 3 slips each time so she never got sickend she 3/4 bred saluki/grey she is a decent dog, although i have a saluki grey x bull grey dog pup 8month old and i wouldnt dream of entering him yet as he aint ready or mature enough yet.you can tell when its time to enter your dog imo
