look guys not having a go but the russells i seen in the 70s and 80s were top workers nowadays they are just to small i know there are good ones knocking about but i think that they are very hard to find i have always prefered lakies but even them thesedays its hard to find worker to worker in them because these are being crossed with patts to make them harder and a better baying dog but instead they are just more headstrong but they are a nice cross of a dog and if you want an ideal cross and its your first terrier you are better off with a border cross lakie not as headstrong sorry if a upset anyone i didnt intend to do that atb and happy hunting.

you suggest to this lad a border cross rather than a russell cross,i think you will find that there are even smaller pockets of good working borders about, theres nowt wrong with russells, only the ones you have seen maybe

Smashers got it right on this, I thought there was no working russells out there full stop "BUT" its just i knock about and hunt with like minded people that work fells and patterdales. The trouble i find with russells that are known to me personally is they are of poor quality and can't produse a working line.

I don't kid myself that theres no working russells, just that theres more chance of getting good results from a known line of working dogs regardless of colour.

If you fancy a certain x then go for it as already stated "you pays youre money you takes youre chance".

Good luck and do some research.

I have a russel who is 12 now and the dogs has bein as hard as a coffin nail all his days, he came from kilmarnock in ayrshire from a working background, i had a russel before him and he was usless! so theres no two the same just like any terrier breed you just need to find one out workin stuff and take it from there..
