Malt 379
You won't get a legal limit air rifle capable of 50yrd shots. That is a hell of a shot for someone who has spent 20 years shooting air guns, and knows the in's and outs of pellet flights. You want to stick to targets at 25-30 yards max until you can consistently hit a target, and practice your field skills to enable you to either stalk your quarry to that distance or camouflage yourself so the quarry comes to you. 50 yards is a fair old distance BTW, it's about half the length of a football pitch. Pace it out for yourself, you'll probably be surprised at the distance yourself. Quote Link to post

JackReid 35
Hey buddy, do yourself a favour and dont buy a c02 gun. If you want to get further into hunting then save 150-200 and buy yourself a spring rifle, if your not sure which one to get ask around on here for what people think you should get/can afford. A co2 is alot of hassle, needs changing all the time, a bit weak and just arent great. They are effected my temperature and everthing. Wiht a springer you will have a gun that only needs pellets, you will learn to shoot better too. The reason people get a bit irrate about you saying 50 yards etc is because they dont want you walking into a field, seeing a rabbit which is so far away you probably couldnt even keep the crosshairs on it, and firing a pellet into its side or something, which wont kill it, and if it does it will be after hours and hours of dying in a hole with its mates round it not knowing whats going on. So I basically recommend you look around, read up a little bit get a springer, goto mytargets.com and print some off, or even drawing pins a post/board and a pen and draw on some dots about the size of a 10p, and start easy, 15 yards, then 20- 25... But having a bit of pride in shooting and not just 'killing' with your mates will be alot more fun. Let us know what your doing, but your better off with spending 200quid on something a bit nicer than a 150 quid co2 gun that you will be sick off in a few months because they are shit! Snoopy. 0
You can get a decent second hand spring airgun for about £150 in the right places. Personally i'd buy private. Gun shop's usually add that extra bit on to make themselves some money. ( can't blame them.) Rifle's like the old webley spring range and some older HW rifles will come into that price range. But personally i'd save another £50 and go for a TX200 HC or a HW equivalent. Don't forget you'll need some decent glass ontop. I personally don't spend anything less than £150 on a scope. That way i can be confident that the scope is going to be of good quality. I use the MTC VIper but there's plenty of of other scopes that are upto the job that don't cost as much. People may get a little "hacked" off. By that i mean upset, at the thought of you buying a cheap C02 rifle and a cheapo scope to go ontop, this is because we've seen too many people dissapointed by C02 rifles. They promise alot but in reality fail to deliver. You don't want a cheap C02 rifle that's capable of 50 yard shot's. You want a rifle that you choose because it fit's you well, not your pocket. If you need to save some more. Then save some more...It'll only benefit you in the long run buddy. If you buy cheap, You WILL buy twice. Shaun. Quote Link to post
festa 206
just like my grandad use to say you get what you pay for having said that i bought a cheap tasco scope years ago and its still going strong atb gary Quote Link to post
JackReid 35
Honestly buddy, dont be put off by people saying you need this and that. Get yourself 150 quid-200 quid and you will be on for getting a setup. Got any birthdays etc coming up?! As festa said theyre are a few cheapish scopes that will do you well. Im sure there is somebody on here at the mment selling an old Weihrauch springer which are top quality for 200!! Get back to us, we're only trying to help even if it doesnt sound helpful! Edgar 1
Do yourself a favour, don't get a C02 gun, they are fine for plinking, not reliable enough for hunting. If you want a cheap set up get either a new cheap Weihrauch like the HW 57 or 99 or a second hand Weihrauch with open sights. These are fine for out to 20-25 yards, don't let anyone tell you otherwise I have used them for years. Practice till you can get inch groups at these ranges and learn field craft. Then when you have saved some more buy a good scope and mounts, cheap scopes are worse than open sights. I know this works because I have done it and I still have the HW57 and use it for all my shooting, it now has a good scope on it. Good luck. Quote Link to post
