fireman 10,932
Had a day out with a chap(patterdale 88)and his lady for a bit of ratting,a few mates came along and between us we had a right pick and mix of terriers. We arrived and set out for the first set of holes only for one of the smokers to stop working after 30 seconds ,not usally a problem seeing as we had 2 with us but for the amount of holes there were this was a problem.Anyway we set to a muck heap and the dogs were soon marking a few holes so out with the spades and a few rats were caught to start the bag off,the lad who invited us had out 2 young pat pups who were out for the first time and they soon got the hang of it and got stuck right in .We moved onto a slurry pit which had dozens of holes around the edges and the dogs were marking a warren under a water tank on the edge,we smoked it for a bit then a few bolted and were cleared up by the dogs. The lack of another smoker was hindering us but we stuck to it as best we could, onto a small hedge row had the dogs marking again and the spade was used to find a couple more rats for the dogs.Onto a haybarn where the dogs again marked a couple of bales out on there own and the dogs pulled a few from here first then a front loader was used to pull them over and a few more rats that had thought they'd made it safe went into the bag,we then moved to the pig field where we rolled a few bales and accounted for a few more and had a couple out of a pile of earth also.Did expect to get a few more than we did and would have done so with another smoker as there were a few places we didn't try due to the amount of rat holes and only one smoker.A grand day was had by all and a big thanks goes out to patterdale 88 for the invite and a big thanks to his lady for the cuppa's for us all afterwards,a couple of eod pics and sorry about the pic quality as my camera it seems was playing the same game as my non working smoker .For the record 34 adult rats and 4 greys and some of them were big old buggers for sure Quote Link to post
