Dan Edwards 1,134
I won a bitch out of a broxsis breeding. She will be 5 here in a few months. She have over 300 coyotes to her now. Two yesterday. She have had two extremely healthy litters bred to a close relative of hers. Its only too close if it dont work. Quote Link to post
dafydd thomas 13
this reply is for hunting all the way, firstly money does not come into it at all, you said this method would probably be easier and cheaper my self i cant see that as the sire is about five hours drive away! and the brother is about two hours away, which i add i will happily do if thats what i decide on. finally even if the breeding does go ahead none of these will be sold only given to close mates who i know would give honest feed back, good or bad. atb dt Quote Link to post

Dan Edwards 1,134
Caught two more coyotes yesterday with my bitch out of the bro/sis breeding. She is a good bitch. Fairly fast with loads of wind. Big, strong, powerful bitch. 28 inches at the shoulder and about 76 pounds in hard running shape. I couldnt ask for more. Quote Link to post

skycat 6,173
Breeding that close is only a bad thing if there are genetic faults back in the line which you would obviously double up on breeding that close. IMO you have to know the line back many generations: like for 20 years or more, to truly know if there are any faults which could re-surface. I did a cousin to cousin mating a couple of years back and no problem, but now I'm stuffed as I don't know what to put to the bitch I kept who is doing everything asked of her. I could put her brother back to their dam to fix the traits I like so much, but she's too old. If you can truly say, hand on heart, that there are absolutely no faults or undesirable traits in the line for many generations back then go for it, and as your'e not intending to sell the pups on and you'll get honest feed back from your mates then you can't really lose, can you. Put it this way, if you don't do it you'll always be wondering what that mating might have produced: at the very least you'll have wasted a couple of years of a breeding programme if it doesn't work out, or you might produce superb dogs with everything you want. Good luck. Quote Link to post
