with a mod or with out a mod...

Recommended Posts

I use a Pes on my 223 and its very good, effects the balance when shooting free hand but on sticks or bipod its great and works very well makes the difference of shooting more than one fox in the same field as i have many times over and long range rabbits also alot smaller in diameter than some other mods on the market. Also use a silencer on the 22RF would'nt be without it but its not a pes but still excellent.

I use a T8 with a neoprene cover, but would rather have a rifle without a moderator as they are much better balanced and look much nicer.

On saying that, I do value my hearing so perhaps I better stick with one. Next time it will be a stainless steel one, perhaps the MYM or PES scout. I don't want an ally one, they may be lighter but wear out quickly with the hot gasses produced when firing. Not fussed about modular as long as it is stainless.

another one of my general consesus questions guys and gals...

who shoots with or without a mod on their centrefire rifles?

and what mod do you use?

cheers!

Well:

We've be out today and after 3 hours of Deerstalking 'we' had a bit of a range day in and old dissused quarry,

'we' have 2x .243's 2x 22.250's and my .270.

The Moderators are on the .243's and my .270 (Wildcat Predator 8).

The bottom line is at the 'Sharp end' i.e' next to the targets, the moderators make NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL, no sorry

not even a little bit! However at the 'blunt end' (across Rodder's Landrover bonnet), the difference is staggering, my

Ruger No1 22.250 bursts eardrums each and every time, but Robbie's 22.250 Savage +Moddy only 'pops' off each round.

So the decision is that Moderators keep Humans/Neighbours happy, but otherwise have NO EFFECT AT ALL!

cheers guys very helpfull stuff!

i have a tikka T3 lite and is is lovely to carry, sooooo light and compact wth out being front end heavy. i just dont know if i really want a mod to be honest as im not sure i want such and badly balanced gun. :icon_eek:

i know it reduces noise but i ony have one permission that is near any houses so noise isnt really a problem to me to be honest! :clapper:

so tell me if i am wrong but there is little point in a mod.....that is unless the muzzle flip is really bad? which it could be due to being such a light gun? i'm 6ft and 17stone so im hoping i can soak up the recoil and it not be an issue. :boogie:

Balance on any T3 Lite with a mod will be terrible (a bit less bad on the new screw cut shorter barrel versions), but it is fixable! It simply comes down to what you want/can live with. Accuracy will most likely improve, felt recoil will decrease and you and the neighbours ears will stop bleeding if you fit a mod!!:thumbs:

Edit

P8 COMPACT on them all...tube from a Full length P8 at the top right for comparison!
