rescued lurcher?

Recommended Posts

We rescued a Lurcher.....from our own back garden just over 12 months ago. We caught him and took him to the local vets, who handed him in to the rescue home, 7 days later we went back and had him. Never had a dog before. Best thing we ever did. He was very thin and in bad nick, we've fed him up and he's doing great. Just going to rabbit with him with mates JRTs and some ferrets. We think he's about 6 or 7 ?? a Saluki/gray/dear cross ??

We called him Ossie.

There is a exceptional dog on here that, I belive, is a rescue. :whistling:

Thing is, it's a massive gamble but sometimes it can pay off, dogs can end up in rescue centres for all sorts of reasons, family split, ran and got lost, dumped after carrying a small but annoying injury, (which usually comes right with the rest in the centre) and a million other reasons. We all assume that if a dog is in there it's no good, a jacker but it might not be the case.

When we were young we used to 'borrow' dogs from the local rescue and if they wern't up to the job, they'd go back. I suppose we were a bit of a 'last chance saloon'.

Many were shite but every so often sommat real tidy would come out (or over the fence!). One bitch I remember well was taken to the hallowed grounds of Altcar Estate two days after her 'release', she killed the first three hares that she seen, all with good slips, the following week she killed five out of six. She went on and lived a long and happy life with her new owner, hunted well into retirement and lived a fireside life with his mother after.

So, there's a happy ending BUT thats the gamble! ;)
