jimmy100 48
some good dogs can be found this way BUT some have been handed in because they yap or have jibbed etc so it is a bit of a lucky dip really. if you cant offer a permenent home wether it works or not i wouldnt bother as some of them have been through enough already without adding to it!! well done on your dogs catches tho good luck in the future Quote Link to post

ferreter.al 22
i didnt get mine from a rescue but it had been passed from pillow to post from been a pup for one reason or another.i got him at 10 months and he hadnt seen anything and i dont know his true breeding but i looked at him and he had some bull in him.he was racey and had good feet and a good coat and a good temperment so i took the risk as i was skint at the time and couldnt afford £150 plus on a new dog and it payed off,he is good on the lamp for a 1st season dog, quiet in kennel, grate with other dogs and kids and suits me down to the ground but if he was older i wouldnt of risked it because i would be wary that he had been dumped because he yapped or had no drive or something.glad your mates dogs have worked out.happy ending for them atvb Quote Link to post

So you have no experience of pound hounds and yet your qualified to comment ..dogs are not just put into homes because of their working ability ...how about a lurchers that have been given up because their owners don't look after them properly ..starve them make them live in sh1te conditions or worse.. or the owner who buys a puppy and realises 6 months later that they can't handle it any more and gives it up for rehoming ...Lurchers are NOT exclusive to people who work dogs Quote Link to post

Some of them go on to work and some of them don't. I think the above phrase "if you can't offer a permanent home whether it works or not I wouldn't bother as some of them have been through enough already without adding to it!" is the salient one and applies wherever the dog is from and wherever the dog is heading.
