NewBarnFerrets 3
Had a few light strikes recently on my o/u spanish boxlock. The firing pins were not brilliant, so had some new one's made....nice job! The other problem is that the main compression spring that forces the hammer forward on the lower barrel is weaker than the top one. Any idea where I can get a replacement spring or match one up? Or could I just shim up the spring to compensate? Quote Link to post

sage 0
Let me see if I can help you on line and save a few pounds. I note bottom barrel is the weakest strike. This is normal for the following reasons, (1) it gets the most work in most cases as most shooters prefer to shoot bottom barrel first. (2) The lower pin gets struck with the middle of the hammer rather than the top. Example is hold a normal hammer half way down the shaft and try to drive a nail in - not as efficient as holding it in the normal position. Things you can try for yourself are swap the top spring for the lower, by rights it should be fresher. Do not shim up as this may cause the spring to lock and bend the cocking limb. If you give me the make, model number and gun number I will be able to acquire for you. If all else fails send me a copy of your SGC and we will arange an Insured pick up of your gun. Inspect, Quote prior to starting work and I will guarantee you we will sort the problem. Hope this has been of help Sage UK GUNREPAIRS. Just another option as you sound like a practical chap send me the old main spring as a copy and I will supply you with a replacement. Quote Link to post
