big or small???

i use a pritty small hob he does the job for me i was going to get a big hob but then i thought of the digging

I work 2 small jills and 1 small/medium hob that will clear everything only work 2 at a time though.

i went out with my mate today, he had three hobs that are about the size of normal jills i couldnt believe my eyes we worked them last year and i thought they were bigger, anyway they are slightly inbred so it seems this is the answer, in the next few years we are going to breed around them to see if we can get the small type the only problem we have with them is that we only have hobs with this blood in, 6 of them all by the same father but by three different mothers, the three hobs that are the smallest are all full brothers there mother was tiny but she died this year the one jill i had i gave to a bloke i no i regret it know as he had her spayed, so i will breed from one of them next year and keep two daughter back, and then the year after prehaps croos one of them back to a half brother of the father or something like that were see.

i think bigger hobs tend to kill more then the smaller ones :thumbs-up:

My best worker is a very small Jill (I think shes small anyway).

 

She is about 14 inches Nose to tip of tail, Handles like a Kitten (as in cat) and works like a Tiger on Rabbits.

The point everbody seem's to be missing is that it take's a little ferret a hell of a lot longer to kill a rabbit and in the process they get kicked to feck for they troubles sometimes even bottled up rabbit's get left because they can't be shifted..

Now if you use the big fellow's they usually pull them straight out the stop end's for a bolt or kill them pretty quick which can be dug down to..

the trouble with digging is that i normally go ferreting with INAN and hes abit shy of the spade so them big hobs arent for me :whistle:

You obviously are new to the game so i wont go on ..

Nobody in there right mind want's a ferret to kill and lay UP.. .. if i had one that laid up i would shoot it no question's asked..

Now if the ferret kill's a rabbit that wont bolt then get's dug to then MOVES on to the next in a short space of time that will have a place in my hutch all day long..

very true millet, thats what i like about my mates small hobs, they will kill and then move on, i find that jills will kill and stay there do you think the same?

i think what he meant was he dosnt want ferrets that kill and stay in the spot week in week out, because you spend all day digging, he prefers ferrets that if they kill they move on and carry on working

I had a ferret once, a few years ago, that went straight down, killed and would not budge.

My other jill would go down and bolt the rest and still this jill would not fecking come out, it can be very frustrating when this happens.
