saxosportsaxo 2
Hi all just have to say that i have just purchased a 20g Italian o/u Shotgun This being my first shotgun, i was a little uneasy on using it for the first time.... So i went out last Monday to have a go..... And i havn't put it down since.... It's great... I've been shooting for many years with air rifles and firearms but this is something else... Yesterday I went to one of my shooting spots and took down 8 pigeons, 4 crows and 4 magpies! I want to get my hands on a 12g now so if anyone in west wales or nearby is looking to sell one let me know..... Thanks for reading.... One happy hunter! Quote Link to post

saxosportsaxo 2
for some reason, owning a shotgun is like being a kid in a sweet shop, one!! is never enough I know.... I've just caught the bug... I can see now why people can spend so much on just one shotgun! Quote Link to post
Colster 1
Mine is creeping up on me. I applied for my FAC last year and a number of people suggested to me I went co-terminous (extra tenner and I can pick up an old SBS for about £100 I thought) so I went for it. The problem I'm having is getting my eye in, if it's sat in a tree or on the ground I can nail it but the minute it's moving I struggle. Although I've now been offered an old clay trap so that should mean: I get the practice necessary to start being able to work out the necessary lead. I end up spending more money on the shotgun than I do on the rifle that was the reason for getting a licence in the first place Ah well, mustn't grumble Edited February 26, 2010 by Colster Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
practice is the key bud, better if someone can stand behind you who can tell you where you are going wrong, once that is cracked you are on the way thats when it gets real fun,the confidence makes you shoot better. the best of luck and keep at the corvids waidmann Quote Link to post
jackinbox99 41
Thats a great bag for a new gun! Well done. One thing ive learnt is that money spent on a gun is not equal to the pleasure you get from it. Ive get more pleasure from a £60 shotgun than I do from a £1200 one. Sure, I can appreciate the workmanship and quality of some of my more expensive guns, and I do enjoy shooting them, but for out & out pleasure & fun it the cheaper gun for me! Quote Link to post
Sidelock 10
Hi ,, Dont worry about lead, pratice your your gun mounting, pratice infront of a mirror, keep mounting the gun till you feel happy then mount with your eyes closed, open them once mounted and youll see where your pointing. small point determin your dominant eye, easy to do stand square to a point and hold a finger out infront of you ,, aline it with both eyes open then in turn close each eye one will make the finger move the other wont the one that dont is your dominant eye. Ok Lead, Dont worry about feet and inches, start with the gun down( out of your shoulder) then using the muzzels as sight start to swing ( track ) the bird, as the gun is swinging start to mount your gun. Now as you pull out ahead of the bird the gun should slip into place finger tightens and as you feel youve gone far enough ahead tap one off..... 2 Rules, 1, PUT THE MUZZELS ON ( tracking bird) 2, KEEP THE SWING GOING ( dont stop as you tap the trigger) ( tip 1, if you miss imediatley dould lead and tap again after a few trys youll get the idea) ( tip 2, point with the index finger of your forward hand straight down the barrels then trust your finger to follow your eye. you can try this without a gun ,,, just get someone to call out objects in a room you point and look at the same time, Hope that helps a little,,,,,,, BUT whatever pratice your gun mounting if you gona miss it happens before you tap the trigger Quote Link to post
stubby 175
your probably making the mistake of trying to aim, non moving targets are fine to AIM at with a shotgun, but moving means, POINT, rather than AIM I have the same trouble, shooting an air rifle for work, I then get out of the habit of pointing the shotgun, it normal takes me a few misses to get my head in gear again Quote Link to post

Sidelock 10
Tip 3, If you over decoys let one land then take the next bird with your choked barrel then theres lots of time for the second rising bird Quote Link to post
