stormrider8 59
The only way you can get caught for poaching is get caught red handed, its as simple as that. Unless you actually admit to it then they have nothing on you. There are plenty of explanations for carrying a few silly rabbits! Or for having other game on you for that matter! Quote Link to post
wee gemm hunter 8
Rabbits ARE legal but you DO need permission from the landowner. You say the quarry isnt owned by anyone but im pretty sure it IS owned by someone, maybe the local council, maybe "the people" as all land is owned by SOMEONE. Hunting without permission is poaching, simples. The only thing you can argue as far as i can see is that he was just walking the dogs and they happened to either catch or better still just find the rabbits already dead. If it was just one rabbit i would if said they disturbed a fox just after a catch but that aint gonna happen 4 - 5 times in one walk! Lol! Shame to leave um being that were in the middle of a credit crunch so he took um home. Now...............if the dogs happened to of caught the rabbits they must of been off their leads and that in the eyes of the law means they were out of control so best say they just found them. I wish you all the best with it mate. Let us know how it goes. i got taken to court 5 times by tilcon quarries the police charged me with taking ground game (conies) without the land owners permission the fine goes up every time they summons you 25yrs ago it started at £20 plus cost it was all part of the game we used to catch hundreds of rabbits sell them for a pound (dressed) i made more money then than i do now,if they think you are breaking a 100yr law these days they take your vehicle of you how times have changed Don't know what year it was, but I was fined £5 + 16sh and 6pence court ex's for catching rabbits on the railway [the older guys will know about shillings @ pence] Quote Link to post

And that's a civil matter not criminal!!! Quote Link to post

shaun dee 7
Is it Fulwell Quarry Nature Reserve you are on about ? If so, it's owned by the council, with a strict "No hunting,No Shooting " policy. Cheers. yeah its fullwell quarry. been on the fone to the council .told them this-= at first you told me i couldnt have my bikes to go up there so i baught my dogs to go up there . and now you wont let me do that......what do you want me to do go pinch stuff??????.they rtold me that they are strict on hunting infact they said very strict but it is legal to hunt rabbits in the country (witch i knew) but not fox or hares (but there is no hares up there). then i asked well was i breaking the law by making myself a new hobby and its kept me out of trouble for a year and they said as far as she knew no, but its the police that want to take it further and they still ned to do the meeting tomorro with my brother and they will bring the councils hunting policy as in where im allowed to hunt in sunderland without poaching.shaun Quote Link to post
