dogs that dont make the grade

Recommended Posts

hi ive had lurchers for 15 yrs and 3 out of the 4 bitches have done me proud in certain ways ,but one is bloody useless at most things bar ratting which when i go she s shit hot but in the 7 yrs i have had her i can count on one hand the times ive took her

i have friend s in the greyhound business and if they dont make the grade they are distroyed obviously people dont want rubbish is this right to do so ?

the bitch i have is in that bracket but it has x 'd my mind to do the same ie put her down because of the time ,cost etc but i have not got the balls to put a healthy animal down and can cope 80% of the time not thinking that she s shite

this will be a touchy subject and i dont expect a great deal of replies as people will be called allsorts for telling the truth but who is in the same position as me ?have you rectified the the problem or still kennel full ?

if this post is not worth any replies due to the content and hatered towards other members please moderators delete it as i dont want to name names and shame members into owning up to their thoughts

please pm me on your views if happy with me reading them im not here to stitch people up just curious as i know greyhounds and pups are dealt with differently by so many people

i hope i have not upset any members on the thought of this post

3 options as i can see mate...1. keep it as a pet

2. get it put down (which im not sure i would do if its heathy and well mannered)

3. rehome it as a pet.could be a young lads best mate for ratting with and just messing around with.my mate has a whippet that yaps and stuff when he is lamping so he just keeps it as a pet and takes it mooching.i think he would get rid if his family wernt so attached to it.hope this comes across as positive advice.alvb alex

Im with you mate i wouldnt be able to put a healthy dog down,i think you would be best of finding pet homes for dogs that dont make the grade as early as poss i now this is no easy task though and very time consuming

I couldnt put a healthy dog down especialy after owning for 7 years it would be like killing one of my mates i would have known along time ago the dog was not up for the job and found it a nice pet home

not all greyhound folk put healthy dogs down i think your reading to much of what the papers and antis say i keep greyhounds and lurchers and have had plenty that havnt made the grade but never put a healthy one down theres plenty of options out there to rehome if you just make the effort.

Years ago when i was new to lurchers and you got one that was no good i would really try but deep down you know the truth and then you grow to resent the dog so as soon as you get that gut feeling its best to rehome them , remember , it costs the same to keep a bad one as a good one .

iv got a 9 year old and 11 year both beddy crosses that dont do nothing any more but have served me well for years and will stay with me untill i get told they have to be put too sleep i personly think i owe them that and if that means im not a proper dog man then feck it im not my dogs are more than just tools to me
