bigsid.life is a bitch -then you die.

as others have stated get knocking, you certainly wont get a fac without land and any land owner/farmer wont let you on just so you can get your fac.

i was lucky when i first applied i had a farm that i shot rats/rabbits on with air rifles, the farmer was /is a well known terrier man and he used to let me have a few shots with his rifles.that got me the bug,i applied and used his land for my application -bingo first tine no problem,in the next 2 years he taught me the dark arts of reloading and more importantly how to call, stalk, and lamp fox.that also got my foot in many doors thanks to his help and a few good words in a lot of ears i have a large acreage that i have access to,but still i have to prove to new landowners my knowledge to deal with there problems, this has taken the best part of 30yrs and i think i am still learning something new every year.

There is no other way than to go knocking on doors but remember its a trust thing. Put yourself in their shoes would yout let a perfect stranger walk round your farm with a rifle? I have known farmers infested with rabbits but they still wouldnt want people they dont know on.

Its not easy but most of us have had to do it (and still do), keep trying and you will get there and when it does happen a bottle of whisky as a thank you each year doesnt go a miss

the reason you'll get members telling you to go knock on doors is simple, your asking for "approacable" landowners, yet how does any member here, know how YOU conduct yourself, A LANDOWNER THAT THEY HAVE DEALINGS WITH, MAYBE APPROACHABLE BY THEM, BUT CHASES YOU SHOUTING "GET ORF MY LAND"

it was constructive infomation, like everyone else on here that has got themselves permission, the worked for it, probably knocking on more doors than permission given, why would anyone on a forum say, yes go an see farmer so and so, tell him bert sent you, no one knows these new members from adam, yet sometimes it feels like they expect land handed to them on a plate, if people started handing out "farmers to visit" names to anyone on the internet that asked, Im sure they would loose permissions very quickly

so Ill add it again, if anyone wants permission, dress smartish, talk polietly and go out knocking on doors

Yes (although not sure about the mod) but you would need to be a full member of a target club (probabtion period is usually 6 months) but then you wouldn't be able to hunt with it.

As has been said above, get off your a@r3 and get knocking on doors. I like most people on here started out with a sub 12 air-rifle, got some land and slogged it out on foot, then used that land and the farmers blessing to get my FAC/SGC. It's hard work but man I'm glad I did it. Had a great day yesterday as he also let me use one of his fields for trying out some supersonic ammo in my LR. Set my targets up at 90 yards and blasted away, then had a stroll round and bagged a bunny with the LR (on subs) and a crow with the shotgun.

thanks folks guess its time to go for a drive and start knocking then.

Quick word of advice, look for land with obvious signs of infestation/damage, they are more likely to lead to a positive result. Always be polite, even when some miserable git tells you to fork off. Have a business card made (cost about a fiver for 200 online) and give it to whoever you ask, even if they say no. I have had calls from people who originally said no, asking me to come and sort their rabbits out.

Like everyone has said previously, eloquently or not, shooting land comes to those who actively search for it  and you WILL get more knockbacks than success, ride the storm and keep at it.
