JackWilliams 1
I have a four month old, saluki x bull whippet. I was wondering if the saluki is making him rather arogant and shy. Any ideas would be greatfully recived. I will post a picture of him asap. Quote Link to post

MATTI 34
Saluki's can be a bit shy or suspect of stranger's, but that's not a bad thing if he's fine with you and your closest. The arrogance may well be from the Bull. Quote Link to post

Guest Ditch_Shitter
I've been thinking about all this Saluki stuff lately. I think I might have come up with a clue too: I had a sal', over thirty five years back now. She was quite smallish and really beautiful. She could single handed, when she had a mind to. Other days she'd just stand there, looking around, as the hare made good over the horizon. An infuriating and sometimes damned embarressing trait. Personally, I considered her the next best thing to completely brain dead. I thus have carried a personal 'Thing' against the breed ever since. Yet now I find that if I publicly knock them, the likes of our own JD here stand up and berate me. Swearing his / their sal x's are the bits We can't both be wrong. And now I think my aging memory has finally cracked it. I believe it's all in the Strain. I do distinctly remember my one was of a known ~ quite famous ~ line. Show stoppers in fact. So she was obviously of Type A. These other lads Dogs, when pure or even in the X, appear quite differant from my little red bitch. Type B then. And Type B is, simply, a better Hunting form of Saluki. Some Canine 'Doctor' chappy made a life time study of some aspect of Saluki's. I read of his stuff on another, a Dog forum. I believe he died a couple of years ago but his work is quite famous in certain circles. Can't for the life of me remember what the hell he had to say. But I have a niggling feeling he too was pointing out the vast chasm between differant Types of Saluki. So, maybe, there we have a clue? Some (Types, strains, lines) are worthy of every insult ever heaped on their empty heads. While others truly can prove the doyens their keepers claim them to be. Study much and choose carefully, where Saluki's are concerned, I suppose? Quote Link to post
Guest JOEB
Good post Ditch............In his book(extreme I think) JD wrote something to the effect of expand /work the dogs mind....something like that. When I saw that it lifted a veil from my eyes in as much as, if you want to do this, you have to expand your own. Its much to easy for owners who dont want to put the effort in to say "Thats just Salukis for you".....sort of shifts the blame away from the owner. I have tryed never to look at any dog with pre-concieved ideas, sort of leave your predjudice at the door type thing. The dog is a blank canvas, and any owner with a new pup should be as well IMHO. You will get out as much as you put in, and any owner that does not should first look at themselves before shifting the blame.........ask your self what you want to do, then put the work in untill you do it. Thats my tuppence worth :thumbs-up: JOEB Quote Link to post
