Used to go after Salmon with a mate years ago, he had a real small speargun, about 12" long, but man was it effective at salmon headshots, from close range obviously, In your shorts and swimming down sort of close range. I think he got it from Tenerife or some other "exotic" place like that. Good laugh though

yeah i got myself one last year, shot a couple of mullet and a few others.

there is a salmon river near me that enters the sea but i'd guess i'd be shot if i went anywhere near it with a speargun tho i still do fancy a salmon.

who knows i might brave it this year

it is amazing how close you can swim with the fish when in the sea.

its not fishing is it realy, i mean its not realy sporting is it,,its kind of a slaughtering/whole sale,thier aint nothing sporting about it ,,you jump in swim a bit ,the fish dont swim away , and then you point and fire a bolt at its head , the only way to make it a bit more sporting was if you went somewhere exotic and tried spearkilling and see a big bullshark on your case after you speared a fish ,now thats a bit more sporting aint it..

they call it spear fishing & it is a means of hunting/killing fish so yeah it IS fishing

 

as for your commnt "its kind of a slaughtering/whole sale" not true. i choose what fish i am after and what fish i kill. i do NOT go round killing fish indiscriminately. i take what i need.

 

it is no different than shooting a rabbit with an airgun or a pigeon with a double barrell.

bollox how can any fishing not be a sport, a blood sport in fact. be it spear fishing,walking over flounders it's fishing if you go sea fishing is it sport to catch 200 mackies a day just because you can no thats slaughter..

forgive me for asking but what is your sport, then what ever it is, you explain to me how it is not hunting ??

 

obviously you have been watching to much of the discovery channel, because of any of the fish i have caught on the spear took a little time to spear.

 

1st. i had to stalk the fish, trying to keep up with it when it trys to get away.

2nd. i have to get within 3 lengths of my speargun to the fish (which is not easy) which is 180cm because that is as far as the spear witll travel

3rd. i have to be able to stay under the water, holding my breath waiting for the right moment to shoot. if i need more air i loose the fish.

4th. i could not be arsed argueing with a plonker like you who obvoiusly knows nothing but what you have watched on sky tv.
