outbacktrecker 0
Have been using .22 and 243 for fox and muntjac on a private estate, 14 acres, where I keep some primitive sheep - small, horned and agile. Renewing FAC, open cert., which now includes 22-250 which I purchased. No longer use 243. Have been shooting on this estate for over 12 years. There are long 10 foot high earth banks along part of perimeter, steep slopes in wooded area and on field where my sheep graze. Fields and woods on 2 sides. All in a all good place to get some very safe shots. Had problems with foxes taking lambs last 2 years and muntjac multiply by the dozen and enjoy grazing with my sheep Think someone is dropping off muntjac - RSPCA certainly have! Unusual, getting groups of muntjac - not doe' with young.!!! Prob. renewing FAC, FEO stated not safe to use 22-250! Have reduced the places I shoot, only where essential, due to travel commitments. Regional Director from BASC, FEO meeting me at the estate on Friday. Looking for strongest case to include 22-250. Notwithstanding safety which I think is self evident. FEO offered to shoot the deer for me - cheeky! Comments and suggestions very welcome! Cheers folks Quote Link to post

sharp_shooter_sam 0
Wont .22-250 be a bit...much for muntjac? Im talking meat damage Cant see why it wont be safe to use .22-250 but .243 is fine? Edited February 25, 2010 by sharp_shooter_sam Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
If you are an OPEN FAC holder acreage should not come in to it if there is SAFE shooting on the site!! Sounds like your meeting will resolve this!! Quote Link to post

Sounds like your meeting will resolve this!! my mates just had this problem when renewing his. even tho he has a open ticket the land has to be rechecked after 5 years. well this is silly you would think as you have open ticket. when you renew you have to have one piece of land that is suitable for the said'' cal crazy really but thats what they want Quote Link to post

Thanks folks Sections 6 & 7 of the deer act refer to shot size and those who are permitted to use a shotgun. Basically landowners or the owner/leasor of the deer shooting rights can only use shotgun when serious damage is being done using AAA shot or larger. Quote Link to post
