the ferrets only doing what comes natural to it :whistling: its the time of year that there might be young down the hole and is deciding its going to have a wee snack :tongue2: or its just working the rabbit and then ends up killing them as they get a bit more stubborn this time of year :wallbash: only way to find out is get ferret finder and dig to see what its been up to :icon_eek:

They all kill from time to time hobs and jills its part and parcel i personaly have found hobs tend to kill more often

Keeping as quiet as possible when netting up can make a big difference and after netting up leave the burrie for a little

while have a fag etc before entering the ferrets it can change how the rabbits bolt

But there are some rabbits no matter what you do they aint coming out so get your spade ready

Are you hearing a lot of rumbling or is it all quiet when she stays down?

If you aren't hearing much commotion then chances are your jill is finding them in stopends and is toiling away at their rears, however rabbits in stopends can be very stubborn and many are apt to put their heads down and try to wait it out rather than bolt.

Your jill isn't a bad ferret by any means- she's just a stayer! And if she does it all the time it means she is a reliable stayer at that. Often times, the ferrets that 'clear' a warren of bolters and then return above ground quickly are ferrets that simply lose interest in a rabbit in a stopend quickly. They aren't bad ferrets either and can be very handy on ground that isn't suited for digging.

If she is catching and killing rabbits that are attempting to bolt, it's a somewhat different situation. Do you feed them before you work them?

The end of season can always be a little dicey though. With nests of kittens and reluctant does underground, there will always be more underground kills.

rabbits are less likely to bolt if they have young in the nest, are you checking weather its bucks that are bolting rather than does

a locator is the answer, you'll probably find her quicker, you never know she maybe killing more than one down there

I have a large hob I use, he will kill under, but then moves onto the next, by using the locator, I can mark areas where he stays still longer than 5 minutes, and then dig down to, even after he's moved on or even surfaced, I dont like leaving dead rabbits behind

dug down after marking and he had come out,

Some days are just like that when a spade makes up most of the bag mate ,But have a think how you approach a warren ,how much noise you make whem you setting the nets ,do you smoke ect ect the lists endless

make sure they are fed before taking them out i think we all forget it bloody hard work what our little mates are doing underground but as said get a locater and spade and give it time you can check iff they are moving by locating with your finder and it will tell you
