ossetthunters 16
Hi im getting a new lurcher pup in a couple of weeks ( beddy x )and at the moment have no kennel. I have a old unused coal hed made of brick in the garden and am thinking about building a run off the side and using the brick shed as his kennel. I am hoping this will be fine or do you think it will be too cold in the winter? with plenty of bedding obviously. Quote Link to post

Helen 2
I know someone who used a heat lamp. The bitch was whelping and the lamp went on fire followed quickly by the kennel most of the pups were killed. Luckily the mother was discovered before she was burned to death. Quote Link to post
watchman 256
hmmmm keep dogs warm or let them go cold incase the bulb goes.....i know what i would choose! we all know accidents can and do happen,a heat lamp will have its place ie litter pups, injured dog whatever, but i have never felt the need for one in my kennels,as long as good bedding, watertight and draught free then they seem happy enough to me,but each to their own,if you was that worried about the bulb he could knock up a type of shroud around the lamp incase bulb did break, easy prob to overcome for peace of mind Quote Link to post
boyo 1,398
most heat lamps nowadays come with a cover with them always used a heat lamp on pups Quote Link to post
