Catcher 1 639
This question comes up about once a month. The collie can dispatch a fox just as quick as the bull.As for speed the collie is by far the better dog for the job.A lot of guys out there know the bull. But a few just talk it Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
Its only my opinion but i think you edge your bets [bANNED TEXT] you have a lurcher with bull for a said quarry.Though one of the keenest fox dogs i have seen was an ex match dog formaly owned by a travelar and then used and adapted to other forms of allround work by the lad who had him a dog i rated as being a good alrounder after seeing him run.He was a mix of saluki/grey x collie/grey.atb dell That was my logic too Poach, many years ago when I turned on to Bull blood. It was just to damn hard to raise a Lurcher pup, out of tried and tested fox dogs, only to see it fall short, sometimes way short, of its parentage. That was back then though, way back, before this god awfull ban, it was all about foxes, foxes in numbers. It's heart breaking to put all your efforts into something, for so long, build up your hopes and it fails. With Bull blood, the right Bull blood the odds were much greater. All that said though and the two best fox dogs i've ever seen had no bull blood in 'em, just heart, speed, desire and a little bit of sommat special 'to work out the moves!' Quote Link to post
Guest digthemdeeper
no every1 thinks bull x are the best when other dogs will do the same job.....deerhound x greyhound will kill foxes single handed... Quote Link to post
scent 509
I hav'nt seen a dog without bull in make the single handed grade in years have you? Seen most crossbreeds tackle foxes over the years,...but few had the intensity or capability of the Bull bloods .... I used to kill them,.. if the landowner or keeper was nearby,..and demanded them gone,..but nowadays,..my business is purely rabbiting,..things are different,..and there is no profit in messing around with a stinky vulpine.... All the best,.CHALKWARREN.... CW,is that a deerhound x in your photo,if it is, was it called LUCY? Sorry posted this without reading further down ,it is Lucy she won Lambourn I beleive. Yes,..that is Lambourn Lucy,...she was just an old show pony,...just like me.... All the best,...CHALKWARREN.... fine hound that chalky Quote Link to post

Dan Edwards 1,134
Its silly to think that they have to have bull blood in them when there are a bunch of dogs that do it that dont have bull blood. That being said, I'll take a dog thats half kangaroo if they can do their damn job. Quote Link to post
stormrider8 59
I hav'nt seen a dog without bull in make the single handed grade in years have you? No they dont.. But it increases the chances of the dog making the grade 10 fold.. Quote Link to post
jimmy100 48
a 25lb fox would be killed just as quick by any cross that weighs twice as much imo Quote Link to post
kevin kiely 66
a 25lb fox would be killed just as quick by any cross that weighs twice as much imo granted they are not the hardest to kill but the point i think is that the dog has to do a few a week every season for all his working life and some dogs that CAN kill foxes might in time shy away or be reluctant to go ahead and strike if he knows what its like to be bitten from previous experiences or having been entered incorrectly Quote Link to post
bird 9,862
I think it comes down to [how] much fox work pre ban the dog would do.? Most lurchers will do a [few] foxes. But to kill say 3-4 foxes a night [3-4 nights aweek. The is only bullxs of the [right stuff] that will handle that. Ihad a colliexgrey 26in 70lb back in late 80s, that could kill foxes easy. But as good as he was,not many can handle [serious] work of the above 1 Quote Link to post
