whin 463
good game bred bull dogs who are light on there feet as they are bred in the states bred to agreyhound will be fast enough and powerful enough not big heavy lumps ,most types of dogs will have ago but only certain types are game to do it when sore and raw , saw good collie types deerhound types wheaton for sure and saw an alsaition type , and some saluk type , alot with catching foxes is to enter them [bANNED TEXT] and make sure you dont over match them when there young , at the end of the day you cant eat a fox cant sell its skin ,the main thing is pest control reasons, keep the predators down there are more game animals to eat full stop or to barter with , if my dogs get afox i never look at it preban a big deal as he was in the wrong place at the wrong time , as in the country side they are controled with hounds big rifles terreirs lamps snares , so they are not lots about ,per sqaure acre were neare the cities they are very popular ,if i thought the fox was the only qaurry to catch with a running dog i wouldnt have them ,you cant sell skins you cant eat them , the only good thing they are varmits and need controled end off, Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
My Beardie bred lurcher to lurcher line with no wheaton or bull in were dynamite on a regular basis: this was quite some few years ago now and I no longer have that line unfortunately, but they would draw fox, take on top s/h, and one was only a 22" bitch: she lived for foxes: her advantage being that she could get places a bigger dog couldn't. The dogs I have now need more careful entering but once they've made the grade they never quit even when getting some stick and they've no bull in them either. Quote Link to post
spep21 0
A mate of mine worked a ex racer greyhound and it was awesome on foxes Quote Link to post
poacher3161 1,766
Its only my opinion but i think you edge your bets [bANNED TEXT] you have a lurcher with bull for a said quarry.Though one of the keenest fox dogs i have seen was an ex match dog formaly owned by a travelar and then used and adapted to other forms of allround work by the lad who had him a dog i rated as being a good alrounder after seeing him run.He was a mix of saluki/grey x collie/grey.atb dell Quote Link to post
COSH 14
I think there are some good replies to your question here. Id like to add one more point, and that is that the greyhound side of most lurcher mixes is often overlooked, and the attributes in the lurcher are almost always given to the other breed(s). In my experience greyhounds are often very keen and quite game dogs in their own right. Quote Link to post
Top Lamper 2k10 169
ive got a little dog 24'' tts that would take single handed foxes (PRE BAN) and it has no bull in it at all atb Top Lamper Quote Link to post
Buddykangoo 0
yes but if you breed these dogs can you sell the pups as guaranted no i no a 1st cross bull line and 3 times they've breed and every pup in every litter made the grade now thats what i call making the grade. Top Lamper 2k10 169
ya they would make the grade if you train them right and it all depends how the owner of the dog and how he trains it Quote Link to post
leegreen 2,151
you could go smaller with Bull blood not so much need for 26"-27"-28"-29" or even 30"+ crosses. 23"-24"could do the biss and then you would of had a more versitile hound, generally speaking. And as Chalk Warren said "intensity or capability" came into it a lot, not saying that doesn't come with other breeds, it is just more reliable wid de Bull. Quote Link to post
321charlie 5
bull greyhounds are the way forward... Quote Link to post
