ferret carry bags

Recommended Posts

For a walk -out on me own ,travelling -light with half a dozen nets in a pocket and only the dog for company I've often used a semi- rigid, well-lined canvas bag .

To be honest though,a bag -even a well designed one- probably has very limited applications :whistling: especially in these days when awareness of wellfare issues tends to err on the side of caution.

In fact, I'm a bit surprised that ferret bags are still offered for sale as I doubt that modern animal transport regulations would look kindly on their use .

For serious ferreting expeditions a box scores every time . Ferrets are secure and protected in a box wheras with a bag you'll be continually worried about them escaping or has been said , being squashed !

I'd go for a box every time - ferrets are safer, warmer and dryer and you've always got something to sit on . Nowadays you can get small bow backed boxes for the occassional afternoons mooch right up to the larger jobs for a days graft . I always make my own but I'm seriously tempted by one of those so called poachers boxes for the odd couple of hours with a few nets in my pocket.

bags get wet and make it hard for the ferret to breath, and the ferret ended up dead ,it happened to a mate of mine a few years back , boxes are best if you value your ferret ,look after them and they,ll look after you

Here's a bag that a guy on another forum converted to carry a ferret, i recently bought one to convert in the same way using the eyelets to create air holes. I'll be using this bag with my little jill for a permission thats very close to where i live that i can walk to with my dogs as it's good for discreation. As a few people have said a bag does'nt offer much in the way of protection for ferrets but the permission i'll be using this on is a very flat playing field and training fields that have'nt got any gates or fences i'll need to climb over etc. But on any other land thats rough and a bit of climbing is required i always use a good sturdy wooden box.
