all of this is pre ban of course! and a question based on curiosity! my dog when catching its fox, would allways grab it by the back, then the fox would have enough room to bend round & bite him on the muzzle, sometimes a feeble attempt, sometimes bite hard! this happens each & everytime! you would have thaught that he would have learnt to get a better grip! sometimes i think he even enjoys a bit of a dust up? how did youre dogs do it? pre ban of course! :drink:

Every dog is different, mine used to strike where ever they could and then either shake or crunch, the latter normally took a bit more stick than a shaker, as long as your dog had a good heart he would off done the job one way or another, it dont really matter how he did it. :drink: the good old days eh

i like a dog that will grab anywhere it can in order to catch its quarry, i've seen loads of foxes caught by the tip of the brush even, most dogs soon learn to change hold quick, but sometimes you get the odd one that does'nt bother how it kills its quarry and is'nt bothered about getting a face full either ;)

Lucky, do you think that the dog who doesn't mind taking some stick is less inteligent or is it just that the dog likes the battle? :)

i think that type of dog is pretty braindead, they must think it's all normal, because it has'nt ever realised how quickly it could kill it's quarry.

i've had a few like this and i also think they enjoy it all aswell, tails wagging, never hesitating, fox after fox etc.

if they dont like it all they have to do is come off like so many do ;)

this was one of those dogs that would'nt change his hold, but would kill as many as you put in front of him night after night.

by far the hardest dog i've ever owned.

this pic was taken 4 years ago when it was perfectly legal ;)

Were the majority of dogs like that bull bred Lucky?

i can't really comment on this because nearly all the fox dogs i've had have had bull blood in them, allthough i had a bedlington x greyhound years back that was like that but he never really got tested properly ;)

Neck, ass, leg, back, who gives a fook, all dogs differ, once charlie is lifeless on the ground after a good chase.

I do know a dog who after chasing charlie will then produce a wooden mallet and dispatch charlie, :11: as I said all dogs differ.

I love the dogs that will take hold anywhere, and dont look for the right spot to pull there fox... in my eye's a dog that looks for the right hold to grab his fox you will be missing alot more than your catching...

i have seen a mates dog that would grab foxes and where she grabbed them she wernt going to let go she was a half x and wanted to hold them out instead of killing them... but she wouldnt mind how much stick she took...

the white dog i run will grab them any where and move upto the sharp end...

Depends how much stick your dog takes... yes foxing dogs will need a rest to heal up every now and again but depending on how much stick they have took they are usually up and running again very soon or just bat on with a few little cuts...

imo aswell depends on the owner.. i know some lads when there dogs have took a few pepper holes to the face that the dog wont be back out untill they have fully healed... if the dogs face aint looking to sore and swelled up then i still run them, imo this is where a good dog and a bad dog will show...

Im not trying to get into an arguement jay so your saying that a good dog is one that can take a bit of punishment then still go out the next night ? surely a good dog is one that can do the job without getting peppered
