steveS.Yorks 161 Posted February 21, 2010 Report Share Posted February 21, 2010 Not 100% sure on this but i think if you havent got the same number of chromosones in eggs and sperm its impossible to produce young, Dogs and foxes are both dog family and will mate,but because they have a different number of chromosones they cant produce young,as far as i understand the chromosones link at fertilisation and must lock together equally, ie the same number. The cat family can interbreed,any of them as far as i know and theres been lion x tigers bred in captivety,they must all share the same branch of their genetic tree? Interesting subdject.
