whats the best fox rifle

Recommended Posts

just have a look in a good stocked gun shop lads and have a feel of the rifles when your in there. then get the one that suites you best. 223 is a top choice if you want to use factory ammo. if you gett he 1 in 8 twist tehn you could buy some cheap heavy factory ammo. if you wanted to have a go at some very long range targets.

222 is a good caliber and like the hornet is making a good come back as of late. from what i have seen on different forums. my dad has just git a 222 as he wanted a cheap accurate rifle from the box. and 222 rifles can be had cheap.

his is a tikka m595 and for the money they would put the newer rifles to shame, there build is superb, bolt super smooth, great trigger. and great action to build off in future.

you can get them in 222 223 22/250 and 243. and a strong choice i think for the dosh. i see a beauty in laminated stock in 22/250 on guntrader.

For effective, high velocity , accurate rounds for foxes, you won't beat a .222. Not as big and powerfull as others in the .22 centrefire range, but about the flatest trajectory you can get, using a 55 grain pointed soft point round, is heavier than the .17 so will be less affected by wind etc, and ammo is cheaper than .22 250 etc.

Obviously, if your after deer as well, a larger calibre will do both jobs for you ( as has been stated earlier) but an out an out fox rifle .222 in my humble opinion. If you have say £1000 to spend, use £400 on a good rifle and spend the rest on a very good scope, again, just my humble opinion.

About the flattest trajectory you can get? Are you talking about the same .222 the rest of the world is? It's a pretty flat calibre, but next to 223, 22-250, 204, 243, it's not that flat...

hi im about to aply for my fire arms lisense what do you all advise me to get thanks

Well the most suitable Fox calibre as far as I'm concerned is the 22.250, the .223 is fine also, but it depends on your Scope/Rifle Budget.

Any of the Remington/Browning/Ruger rifles are very good, the scope is the pivotal element, you need to spend over £400 on the scope to get

into the 'zone', if that's out of the question get a BRNO .223 and a decent airgun scope (both less than £500).

The 'best' is only 25% better than the 'worst' so your not at a real disadvantage, I've had the worst and now am lucky enough to have the best

and yes it's nice, but the plie of dead foxes is not that much bigger!
