Guest Ditch_Shitter
Here ye go, peeps; Ever one for the longer, more theory testing Threads ..... Well, I've now been feeding and caring for my mag since ... when ever it was I caught the bugger. See above, somewhere. He was absolutely fine, last thing this afternoon, as Dean and I humped that Larry trap over the poxed barbed wire fence which has been my nemesis in waiting, ever since I managed to get the bloody thing behind it in the first place. So I've now got him on This side of said, infernal fence and feeding and watering him each day will now be a doddle, rather than a nightmare! For the record ~ and benefit of those wishing to learn from all this, of course ~ the little bugger eats 'Pedigree Chum' in various flavours. He actually turned his nose up at gobbets of raw flesh (?!). He also tends - no fault of his own - to jet crap into his water bowl and food bowl. Hopefully, the latter at least after he's scoffed the contents! Not much I can do about the water. Though I have given him a down feed type drinker. More water and less 'bowl' to crap into. Anyway ..... Reason I'm back here is that I've found a new maggie to go after! Fact is, I was up on the road and waiting for a lift while I watched a single bird flighting round Noel's land. I have open permission with Noel and so feel obliged to take that sukka out too. Noel keeps fowls and isn't a bad bloke. Ok then. So I've not seen a feather of a magpie on my own ground, since I caught chappy here and then the other two ~ now deceased and, while I have a photo, it's just be pointlessly gratuitous to display that here~ But I'm aware of the existance of matey, one mile up the track. I'm after him now! Just bear in mind that this is Eire. Things take their own sweet time here. I need a lift up that mile of track with my Larry, Maggie 'n all. This could yet take weeks to arrange! But, once I have it sorted, I'll get back here and we can start the stop watches. Let's see if I can get that targetted b*stard out of circulation too, eh? Oh, and don't worry: He'll be going straight down to Pete the Butcher, in town! Pete has an empty Larry trap and has counted Nineteen of the black and white b*stards on his own ground! Pete's gagging for a Call Bird. But then; Pete doesn't know what We know, eh? It Can be done. Without a Call Bird. Even Out of 'Season'! I've f*ckin Proven it! And here's the 'proof' everyone seems to require these days: My Mate ~ Day I Caught Him Stay tuned for that other bugger! Quote Link to post
alimac 882
ditch try using a 1 litre bottle as a drinker, cut a 3 or 4 inch square in the side( about 4 or 5 inchs off the floor). tie it in the corner of the larson with a bit of string. there tail hits off the back of the bottle so find it almost impossible to mess there water, guess the same idea would work with there food.... another tip for catching hoodies, use a one piece stick with a small brass type hook in the end and a screw about 3 inchs up the shaft with just the head showing, hook onto partition behind the entry door, using the screw to act as a stop for the door. found this prevents alot of false set offs which can often occur when using collapsable sticks... hope this helps / makes sense.... Guest JohnGalway
DS, well done on the maggies, I've a few I'd like to clean up myself Alimac, would you possibly have a photo of that set up? Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Cheers, John Alimac, you're a Genius! What a Brilliant suggestion! I'll be trying that out as soon as I have time. Hopefully before I move the trap. In fact, that's much more like the original / usual design on the 'Bullfinch Trap Cage ', yes? And as for the Drinker? I'm in town tomorrow. I'm getting me a bottle of fizz and pouring it straight down the drain! Excellent! Quote Link to post
