Guest busterdog
Thankfully something I've not had to suffer myself, I've seen it first hand but fortunetly it's never been my dog on the day. The worst I've ever known was i took a old boy out from the Rochdale area and he lost a young bitch in the first dig of the day, he was totaly gutted, but being in the terrier game all his adult life he pulled himself together and was just happy she died doing what she did best. We then walked over too the next wood, his dog gave a possitve mark and was entered in a small earth and was on striaght away we got a mark at five foot, at the three foot mark all went quiet, we gave over keeping the dig nice and tidy and ploughed on in the corner. We broke through to a very still dog that had obviously suffocated, the game was still alive and none the worse for wear. It was a very long walk back to the car and a very quiet one.. That must have been a bad day buster losing one is bad enough but losing two would be a topal nightmare!! Quote Link to post
wulf 32
i d donate you one of mine but it d be a bit baggy round the guts lol. it is a sickener when you lose a good one, i know it knocked you for six mate, unfortunately thats the risk we take every time we take em out. it does make you realise that some times we take old reliable for granted. its only when you lose them that u realise how good they were.a 20lb terrier more often than not out weighed and out matched in size and strength which enters a hole barely big enough to crawl into then stays there beyond all punishment that is dished out to him and every attempt to drive him back he still stands his ground and screams FXXK YOU THE GAFFERS ON HIS WAY AN I AINT MOVING.they have my full respect. they live for the work and we are priveliged to own and work such dogs. The last 3 sentences are the best i have read as a tribute to the work they do - spot on mate Quote Link to post

brog 670
this is a dog i used to own he didnt dye to ground but had to be pts he was the hardest dog i have ever ownd or dug to. if you never dug him within 10 to 15 mins the fox was dead and he would draw it that was his downfall in the end he just went mad he would attack every thing including me and istead of selling him for some one to abuse he got put to sleep.GUTTING Quote Link to post

dillan 19
About 3yrs ago I run a pack of Plummers doing some bushin, got to farm yard and Taz pushed 2 foxes out, he took the rest of the pack with him to a banking formed from a dug out fishing pond. Managed to tie up most of the dogs with the exception of Taz and his daughter Rue who were pushing well on in a one holed earth at the waters edge into a high banking. Initially I wasnt worried but after 4hrs of distant baying and myself tunneling in 8ft meetin a `t` junction I could hear them in the left tunnel, not wanting to go any further as it was already dangerous I did start to worry as they had no collars on. Dropping a 12ft hole from the top of the bank working blind we found the tunnel father and daughter 2ft apart stone dead, died of suffocation. It was the most gut wrenching feeling ive ever had. Talk about grieving, it took me weeks to come to terms with it, if only it happenened like this, if i`d have done that, kicking myself etc. They were my best dogs I owned at the time, worked together as a team. The only concilation was they were facing the right way in. Well gutted. Moral of the story make sure you get collars on, even if your bushin, have done to this day. RIP Taz and Rue Edited February 19, 2010 by dillan Quote Link to post
