I have done much the same i have the same line for over thirty years.I put some of them up here a few months ago.We kept two different lines and crossed them as we saw fit. Most of them were hard(some very hard). They were bred from badger digging stock by the man who gave us both lines many years ago.All we ever called them was fell terriers at this stage they are gone very tight(mabye to tight). We done one out cross and it was disaster. We kept every one of the pups and ended up putting them all down.We reckon the wrong dog was put on the bitch when she was sent to a FRIEND to be mated. That was the only f**k up we had we should have went with her. They come consistent in reds black and tans and blacks. Its nice to know what exactly what you have and be able to trace it back.

they are the same stamp as he had for a good while only coat colour change slightly and black and tans do come out in the line as i said from far back from old lakeland blood even when mine are bred black to black one of the dogs from this line went to the south durham hunt up your way the fella that had her is on here the bitch was called gellar she also threw the odd black and tan i am told even though they were black to black matings i guess there always going to come out some where in the line, one thing i have noticed is that the black and tans that have thrown in the line and there has not been loads is they have all been very hard terriers and slower to settle than the blacks i have no idea why but it is true and also the bitchs in the line seem to take longer to settle than the dogs and are alot more aggresive towards quarry

Pity,He was held in high esteem.when a mans name is being discussed in a thread, how is it off topic to ask a simple question about his actions?I did nt want to start a thread about a man held in high esteem who alledgedly turned against men who where only doing what he had spent his life doing.

Hardly off topic either when the threads about people keeping lines going, did he do that or not?maybe the lot is OFF TOPIC!

I know we ll chat about ratting and rabbitting dogs?or when we re on lads that kept lines going how's about mr plummer?

He starting a breed of terrier not just a line.

Cant beat a good black an tan

have to agree totaly with you there BBB,ive seen some very good black dogs over the years but the black and tans ive seen work seem to out weight the black dogs in all sorts of ways and normally very hard too ,before any one kicks off i keep black dogs myself its just something ive noticed over the years :tongue2:if i was you hedz i,d try and keep a few black and tan pups back because the black dog is what every one wants at the moment and it aint that easy to get hold of a good black and tan nowdays .a good friend of mine has spent the last year and a half looking for a descent black and tan bitch ,he,s been all over the place looking and has finally found one .you just dont see them any more with the sqaure body shape nice sqaure boxy head with with the sunk in black beady eye,s proper dogs
