Anyone kept a line going?

Silly question that has no real point...but often wondered if anyone had kept a line going from there first bitch or first dog.

Yes. My first dog, and second bitch, all my terriers since are related to them. But im going to use an outcross next year. Sorry mate no pics, but they are a black terrier.

I couldnt have done it as my first terrier was a bedlington that wasnt worth breeding from.

Apologies, my first statement wasnt entirely correct, as my first terrier dog was killed by a car many years ago, he had only seen 1 fox. But his replacement worked a long and hard career and is in all of my current terriers, and it shows too.

I like to stick to what I know and trust, and to be honest im not looking forward to picking an outcross to use over a bitch of mine next year, but if needs must....

Has the line grown stronger and stronger work wise?

its a pity about the outcross are there no good dogs of your line worth using

The dogs are quite strong and forceful but the bitches are usually steady sounders and very useful, and this has remained fairly consistant.

My dogs are fairly tight knit, and im hoping a bit of new blood will open up more possibilities in the future.

i tried to, but all the black dogs we bread where just way too hard and got hammered,we bread a line going back to almost 40 years and only last year i had to put a my 10 year old black dog down,there is one left but he is not worked,this is a old picture of my black dog,he looks like that because a fox removerd part of his upper roof of his mouth and i had to stitch a tiny piece of bone thro some tissure,he was too hard for his own good but he shamed many "so called GOOD dogs"r.i.p my boy

my mate has bred russals for about 35 years this is a dog i got from his lines last year this dog is 15 months old and had 1 dig and 2 bolt from him

and the 2nd bolt was today wooooooooohoooooooo

Ive kept two lines that i had both at the same time the first being a line of lakie type russells that i had from when i was 12 years old till about 2003 as i ended the line with the last terrier being given to joe hefferman a dog called brock being 12 when i had the first dog from the line i am not 100% sure the blood in them as the bitch was bought for me by my parents from a farmer in nottinghamshire i was going out regular with a couple of old chaps digging ratting etc and i used to clean there pigeons out and do odd jobs for them and they gave me a 2 year old terrier a dog who i was told came from ken goulds line at the time it was the first time i had heard the name and it had lakeland/ russell blood in it and that line started from there they were good looking typey terriers but decent workers not the greatest when i look back but i was young i found the black strain of frank bucks terriers more to my liking and bought my first one in 1994 not direct from frank bucks kennels though,i did find out the dog was genuine after meeting frank buck and two more terrier pups were purchased direct from frank bucks kennels and those three dogs are still the foundation of what i have now with no outcross in them and ive never sold a pup from any litter and know where every one went ive had quite a small percentage of litter wasteage, the line throws i like to think decent working dogs with a nice sound temprement there has been the odd idiot over the years that would simply not settle and have been complete nutters with quarry and other dogs ive also had the odd black and tan throw in a litter even though they have always been black to black matings but i know this is a throw back to the old lakeland type blood far back in the line at present i have no plan to outcross but i have had my eye open for the last 2 years i would say for something i like if i need it because no doubt one day i will

I've kept the same line or family of dogs for twenty + years, all Nicks dogs and I like to keep it as close as possible "the apple never falls far from the tree". Every now and again you come across a dog that's so outstanding in their work they just change the direction that you're going in, I've had the privilage too own a few....

yeah no worries pal i really must learn how to put things on here lol my computer skills are sadly lacking,yes frank buck was a great bloke with a great knowledge and respect of his dogs and a true gentlemen in every way
