BSA R10 and HW100KT chrono data

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was doing some chrono work today with the new F1 chrono and the .22 R10 and HW100KT.

Its obviously for my own rifles, but its a very good started for anyone else with the same .22 calibre rifles

I got some suprising results with both rifles.

Air rifle profile

Scope type = Generic mil dot

Scope magnification = 6 standard mil dot

Scope above centre of barrel = 48mm

Rifle type = BSA R10

Zero range = 25m

Pellet type = FX

Pellet weight = 16 grain

Rifle velocity = 568.7 f/s or 173 m/s

Rifle power = 11.51 Ft/lbs or 15.60 joules

Profile stays within a 2.5cm kill zone from 8m to 28m

First aim point is 10m

10m = Aim bang on

15m = Aim ½ MD hold under

20m = Aim ½ MD hold under

25m = Aim bang on

30m = Aim ½ MD hold over

35m = Aim 1 MD hold over

40m = Aim 1 ½ MD hold over

45m = Aim 2 ¼ MD hold over

50m = Aim 2 ¾ MD hold over

Air rifle profile

Scope type = Generic mil dot

Scope magnification = 8

Scope above centre of barrel = 48mm

Rifle type = Weihrauch HW100KT

Zero range = 25m

Pellet type = Webley Accupells

Pellet weight = 14.3 grain or 0.927 gram

Rifle velocity = 613.45 f/s or 187 m/s

Rifle power = 11.93 Ft/lbs or 16.18 joules

Profile stays within a 2.5cm kill zone from 8m to 29m

First zero point is 11.6m

10m = Aim bang on

15m = Aim ½ MD hold under

20m = Aim ½ MD hold under

25m = Aim band on

30m = Aim ½ MD hold over

35m = Aim 1 MD hold over

40m = Aim 1 ¾ MD hold over

45m = Aim 2 ¼ MD hold over

50m = Aim 3 ¼ MD hold over

So from now on my R10 stays on the FX pellets and the HW100KT is going to change to Webley Accupells as ive tried them myself yesterday in the woods and they group very well.

What was a shock was that the R10 only did 10.9FP with Webley Accupells

Hi Zinny.

The KT look's a bit fiesty mate.

A 16 would take her well over 12ftlbs wouldnt it.

At the moment my HW100 is putting out 567 average using 16grain JSB's giving approx 11.54ftlbs

Ill be keeping an eye on that when the weather warms up a bit, and all the lubricants start to loosen up, I could be very near the 12 maybe a tad over.

Thats what i though Bill but believe it or not the 16 grains chronoed at 11.91, slightly lower than the 14.3s :blink: .

Im not sure why as i was always under the impression that the heavier the pellet in a PCP the more power was given out.

Not in this case though, and the F1 chrono is accurate to 99.5% at 7000 feet per second so the data is bang on mate.

All i can think of is its down to how the pellets fit in the barrel, or the ballistic profile of the FX in the HW100KT mate.

The only reason i changed to the Webley Accupells is that they are lighter and gave a me a better and flatter profile than the FX pellets according to the Hawke software.

I still will need to keep an eye on the HW though as when the weather warms up the power may increase a little :icon_eek:

Hi Farmer,

The F1 chronograph has 1 photo sensitive cell at each end of the unit.

When light is altered at each sensor between the 2 senor cells, the unit picks this up.

What it then does is calculates the time it takes for the light to change at each sensor.

Once its done this is works out a mathamatical equasion to calculate the speed of your pellet / bullet/ bow arrow / paint ball etc, giving you a speed in feet per second.

Using this data you can now work out how powerful your rifle is.

This is done by the following sum:

Velocity (fps) times the Velocity (fps) times the Pellet Weight (grains) divided by 450240

= Energy (ft/lbs)

Example = 570 x570x16 grain divided by 450240 = 11.54 ft/lbs.

Once you have this data you can then use the free Hawke software to plot the best zero range for your rifle to give you the flattest trajectory and best mil dot hold over options.

I hope this answers your questions pal

hi ya si buddy

glad you got the f1 come through ok buddy and testing the guns already you aint wasting time lol the hw100 is close though have you tried the webley/ crossman premier the are a little heavier and might slow them down a bit but if the grouping is there and it stays there it's not that bad is it matey

Interesting results Si.

I have been using the Falcon Accuracy pellets in my HW100KT .22

I'm very pleased with them and they fly relatively flat for a .22! Good groupings as well.

I'm happy with the slightly flatter trajectory, compared to the 16gn AA Field pellets I was using.

Interestingly I've just put in the Falcon Accuracy into Chairgun Pro together with a .20 set up using Bisley Magnums. Both guns in theory giving 11.5 ft/lbs and zeroed at 25yds. The .20 is in a 1" kill(i.e. 1/2 inch over/under)zone from 8.2 to 30.5 yds and the .22 from 8.1 to 30.5 yds, thus negating much of the arguements we hear for .20 being the perfect hunting calibre.

Cheers

Sib
