good first choice?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Am in the midst of applying for my FAC, and was wondering what your views were on the below for a first rifle.

I am looking at the .22 CZ 452 Silhouette (Composite stock)

How many of you have this rifle, and is it a good first buy?

cheers all.

You won't go far wrong with that choice mate. I have the Style version but it is practically the same. Accurate no nonsence, reasonably priced tool. Good choice.

Wipe it over with an oily rag after every use, job done.

If you are out in the rain give it a good going over as the wet will settle inside the stock under the action and barrel. I very rarely clean the barrel, only done it once when accuracy started so go (about 3 years :icon_eek: ). Watch out for wax from your bullets gunking up the bolt face and breech as this can lead to poor extraction but is easy to clean off.

Just get it set up and zeroed and then get as many rounds down it as you can. Practice makes perfect and is fun too :boogie:

hi mate the cz 452 sillhouette is what i have in .17hmr, a brilliant rifle, go for the 16" barrel if you can, also mate you might be interested as i was when i heard this i was on the internet and i came across the spec for puma rifles, these rifles are exactly the same as the cz, infact they even advertise them as having (in there own words) 'cz actions' and they look exactly the same, they also come threaded ready for a mod and ibstock tackel and gun are knocking them out at £250 each, you can have them with either synthetic or wooden stocks, they look a great bargin, infact im headin there to pick myself one up in .22lr in a couple of weeks, anyway mate all the best with whatever you decide,

cheers adam

You won't go far wrong with the CZ mate, accurate, reliable, and cheap, As a first rifle its an excellent choice,

just remember backstops, and safety.... clean the rifle regular no matter what anyone says as rust from moisture will do the inside of your barrel no good, and pitting will happen...

leave the inside of the barrel lightly oiled when not in use and run a few dry patches through it when you want to take it for a shot...

learn the drops and the wind, and you'll be learning all the valuable things needed to be able to shoot all rifles....

practice makes perfect....

good choice again...

Snap.

Hi mate,

Ive actually been into Simpsons at Shepshed today and Nige took the time to show me whats what. (What a great guy by the way) He had the CZ and the Puma in, and they looked exactly the same! (from my untrained eye anyway). The CZ quality is a tad better, but hes selling the Puma in .22 with a 4x12x50 scoper for £250 brand new! - Im sold either way, this is the rifle for me.

RE the bunnies round Leicester, theres still a few about where i go, but they are rediculously lamp shy. Went out last night (only with air rifle as not got FAC yet) and had 1, but going again tonight with a mate, so heres hoping.

I went out last week with a mate whos got a .22 on open, and he bagged 20 each night within 2 hours! so they must be about. (shame i cant shoot where he does)

Where in Leics you from?

i was speaking to mike norris who screw cuts the puma rifles and he seemed to think they are "ok".

if you have some dosh spare then i would consider upgrading the scope.

good luck and have some fun with whichever rifle you choose.
