Trainee/Apprentice Wages

My husband is looking into taking on a trainee keeper probably to do an NVQ while working here as well. If any of you are a trainee or if you are a keeper and employ a trainee could you please give me an idea of wages? (PM if preferred) He was on £50 a week (10 years ago) when he started and wants to know if going rate has changed! Thanks in advance for any help.

i done my trainee ship 18yrs ago.2 of us lived in a 1 berth caravan and were paid £30 per week.i then moved onto my 1st full time position as a beat keeper,the job was great but the wages were £103 per week.it all goes on whether the position has accomodation etc

Current trainee wages are between £100 and £150 per week if they are attending college. They get paid this as a flat rate, even for the weeks they are at college.

 

Mate of mine got a trainee job up north and they tried to pay hin £50 per week and nothing for the weeks he was at college, he lasted about 3 months.

my [bANNED TEXT] is a game keeper and he gets payed 200 per week and he got a house to live in and the farmer pays the bills but the work he does its worth it as he has to look after 5 phesant pens, 4 duck pools and thats over 5700acres

99.9% of trainee keepers will be on far less than minimum wage as no estate in their right mind will pay them hourly.

Im looking to do an apprenticiship this year and the minimum wage is £95 a week but the bloke i spoke to said as long as he gets a piece of paper sayin u got £95 it donnt matter what u get paid!

What FightTheBan said is about right.

 

I think our trainee is on £170 a week and get a cottage.

 

When i was at college 2/3 years ago i was on £100 a week for the weeks i worked (travelling from home some times and living with headkeeper other times)

 

I then got put on £200 a week and given a caravan when i left college and started full time.

 

Then my first job on the books i got a proper salary, house and contract etc.

i used to work 7 days a week for £150. Most went on fuel as i was travelling 30miles to and then that again from the estate as they never gave me accomodation whilst i was a trainee

I was on £200 a week, Had my own place, kennels,, vehicle and everything in the house was paid for exept from food.

done my apprenteship 14 years ago was paid £50 a week with no accomadation, would like to think its gone up a bit since then.

Has he anyone in mind ? i would happily take low wages for this possition plus your man would get a 2k grant and help with my wages from the government . I have some experience helping on small shoots so would be easy enough taught

Would be nice if he got 2k but thing the grant goes to the employer! There isn't any lodging available so he's looking at getting a local lad.

 

Thanks for those that replied. Just because he, and looks like a few others, was on £50 a week wasn't suggesting that was what he was thinking of paying a trainee. The minimum legal wage is £95 a week, I think they're looking at paying about £120/week.
