RaiderBoy 19
Crap id say mate slow and inaccurate overall. right i dont know if this is correct but im sure someone will correct me if im wrong. this is the way i see it, if you get someone SENSIBLE to shoot near you with a flat head pellet and a normal domed pellet the flat head will be almost twice as loud this is because the flat head pellet has a higher drag co efficiency and will lose most of its velocity in the first 15 yards were the domed will keep its velocity for longer. the only advantage flat heads have over domed or pointed is it wont over penetrate because they travel relativly slowley compared to the others. most flat heads are made for target shooting because they make a clean round hole in the paper and thats were they should stay. Phantom 631
The reason for a round/domed pellet retaining its velocity is its weight as I understand it. If it was purely down to the shape of the head, then a pointed pellet would (theoretically) be superior. The weight up front is one of the reasons that BisMags are so hard hitting, they retain more energy. Flat heads are certainly good for up close, but I've known some people (including John D) mention the merits of hunting with them. Phantom Quote Link to post
Edgar 1
Just finished the last batch of 10 tins of RWS Hobby flat heads I bought and am going to order another 10 tins, a flat head pellet is very accurate. They are great for hunting, pack a lot of punch, I can hear the difference when I hit something with them. Accurate to 35 yards which is my maximum range anyway. Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Good point Edgar, If it suits your rifle and your max range then why not i surpose. Si Quote Link to post

Lee85 44
I was speaking to a fellow who was dead against them for hunting, said they wern't stoppping them properly as someone was using them and leaving half dead animals around, this could be to do with ranges I suppose? zini 1,939
More to do with people shooting quarry but not putting the shot in the kill area mate. You hit any airgun quarry with a flat head in the kill area and its going to say good night. I just think that alot of the brands are accurate as hell to 10m but after that they loose their accuracy quickly unless you are lucky enough to have a barrel that likes them lots. Same as RWS hollow points. They are deadly at stopping rats and close range rabbits out to 20m, but i cant get them to group well at 30 metres with any of my barrels. LordGamebore 0
i shoot most quarry within 25 yards so flat heads seem to be ok for this. i don't need the extra range at the moment. not for .22 anyway. What did john darling say about flat heads? Quote Link to post
festa 206
it makes you wonder why it is law that all pest control companies have to use .22 only and can only use flat head hollow points .... atb gary Quote Link to post
