lurchergrrl 1,441
I have a whippet from Fallswater in Ireland - Nimrodel lines if I've got it right. He's 1yr old now. And a big lad for whippet. 21.5" or just a bit taller, solid and very sturdy. I'm forever having to defend him - yes he IS a registered whippet. No he's NOT crossed with a collie, etc etc We were out yesterday with a friend who's got a whippet (no info on her lines, she's a rescue). Looks like a midget next to my lad, she's half his size and fragile looking in comparison. He's never had so much as a scratch - knock wood. He's confident, outgoing, swims, dives into thick cover ... an excellent lad. Anyhow, here he is Not a whippet? I know that he is - but would you say the same? Anybody else with whippets who are similarly built? Why are some so small delicate, and other big as a house (or is it just mine and he's a freak of nature? ). 1 Quote Link to post

chartpolski 24,476
Nice looking dog. Outside the KC "desireable size", but not massive compared to some out there ! And actualy within the AKC breed standard. It appears to have a strong head in some of those pics, any possibility of a bit bull blood in there ? Cheers. Paul in North Lincs 15
lovely looking dog, and in fine fettle!............. there is no exact size in any breed of any animal, only average heights and builds......could be a genetic throw back from many many years ago down the line.......... or from a dog that showed no visible signs of anything else in the pedigree. You've only got to see how some dogs have changed in type in the kennel club over the last 40 years......they are still KC registerd but look nothing like they did way back when! Breeding is not an exact science....but who cares?....as long as he does what it says on the tin...and you are happy with him.... Quote Link to post
lightforcelamper 2
ignore what thesse are saying u have the kc to prove his breed like the otha guy said there could be some trace of one of his past parents in him . i see this dog all the time round my area and a very nice doG. lurchergrrl 1,441
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bothered what he looks like or anything like that (but he is a smasher if I do say so myself). I just wondered if anyone had others with similar looks to his. 'Cause I've never seen one He's IKC registered, and Noel, his breeder, is a most excellent fella. I don't feel in anyway cheated or anything .... he's exactly what I want, tho I confess I was expecting something a bit smaller Mine are pets, I make no secret about that. In that respect he gets top marks; he's probably the easiest dog I've ever had to raise. People ask me if I work them and I laugh and say no, I play with them - I love to watch them do what they're meant to do, so I take them out and try to give them the opportunties. Just last week he finally clued in to what the lamp is for and even tho he missed, he learned from it and gave it his all so hopefully I'll be back out with him this week again. If only I had a pound for everytime some says 'what cross is he' and I say 'he's a registered whippet' and they go 'THAT'S no whippet' 1 Quote Link to post

ATB danny Why ignore these people ????? Opinion was asked, and opinion was given ! No one has belittled the dog, on the contary, they have said it's a fine looking animal ! You get throwbacks and differences in ALL breeds of dog, no one is saying the owner was cheated, only he/she has mentioned being cheated. Cheers. Quote Link to post
lurchergrrl 1,441
Forgot to mention CP .... when I first got him he did indeed look a bit bully with his big fat head By throwbacks do you mean perhaps there is something 'extra' further back in the lines that is showing in him? I have seen his sire and dam, and I have no question at all about the man who bred him. Quite the opposite, I think he's top and I'd go back to him for another one if I had more space to squeeze one in. Again, not that I give a rat's bottom about it - he was bred well and raised well and I wouldn't change him for anything. In fact I think sometimes a smaller more delicate one wouldn't have suited me anyway There are so many variations in the breed but I've not really seen too many that look as strong as he does, was hoping others here had the same type or total opposite and would share some pics and info 1 Quote Link to post
chartpolski 24,476
It's a well known fact that Bull was added to whippets and Greyhounds many years ago. It is quite possible for a "throwback" to pop up now and again. I, like the others are only passing comment on a few pics you have posted, the dog may look completely different in the flesh. You shouldn't worry about the size, it's nothing out the ordinairy. Good luck with him. Cheers. Quote Link to post
