festa 206
hi lads its my turn to do the write up as marksman needs his beauty sleep so this is how it started off... i knew wor lass wanted to go out to the cinema and then a meal so saturday i wouldnt be out...on saturday afternoon me and the missus were walking around morrisons getting some shopping in when my phone makes a noise it was a text from wor kid..the missus pipes up "he better not want you to go out mind" weve got plans for tonight "i know my darling im not going anywhere " and we finished off our shopping,,, as we got to the checkout the wife says go on you can go shooting if you want to so i replied no babe i promised id we'd go out ...no go on she said get yourself away .... are you sure i said (well you have to ask that just the once )lol straight on the phone to marksman and zini were on lets go she does understand lol.. marksman arrived at mine at 18:00 kit in the van and off we went we were meeting zini at the normal place we arrived just before 19:00 and straight into the range for a quick zero before we hit the ground with mr zini driving and lamping (who said men cant multi task) the first 3 rabbits i completely missed (no not the curse of dark angel) lol but i was redemed by my next to shots as we came half way up a hill two bunnies both at 32 meters (lased) 1st shot lands bang on the head and it drops to the ground the 2nd runs another 11meters making this shot 43mtrs (lased) 1 mil dot hold over and the pellet from the .177 AAs510 lands home to make it 2 in the bag ...i then swapped seats with marksman to give him a go with his .22 BSA s10 and to be honest he had the curse all night he landed two bunnies and missed loads (thats the way it goes on some nights) he did make up for it with a cracking 38mtr (lased) shot straight to the temple rabbit didnt stand a chance. :clapper: needless to say he was well happy with it ..we swapped again to give me another go but by this time we needed a cupper so off we went back to the range were zini got the brews in (this guy is a cracking bloke looks after you when hes hosting) thanks for that mate .. any how darryl checked his zero and he must of knocked his gun as the scopes were well out ..no wonder he was missing shots. that sorted we headed back out with me still in the shooting seat where i bagged another 6 rabbits 1 however we couldnt retrieve as it was behind an 8ft fence :wallbash: mind it was a lucky shot to get through the mesh of the fence and land a perfect head shot ...and thats pretty much how the night finished 10 rabbits but just 9 in the bag.. thanks again zini for looking after us ..top bloke :toast: saying of the night was when we were in the range i was zeroing the 510 darryl was down the bottom when i shoot my first shot it went miles high (reason why you should always check zero) and wor kid shouts did you pull the trigger which i replied how do you think the pellet got down that end lol ......he ment snatch the trigger atb gary ps pic's will follow form zini and marksman... zini 1,939
Great write up Gary mate I bet Darryl is sleeping like a little baby after so many hours without sleep :lazy: . Well as Gary said it was a very good night last night and the bunnies were playing for us, sitting in the dimmed red filtered light nicely, waiting for the diet of .177 calibre Bisley Magnums and .22 Defiants to clinically knock their brains out . One thing is for sure, once a .177 Bisley Magnum hits the rabbits brain it does its job very well. For anyone who questions a .177 over distance as a long range hunting calibre I can promise you that they do the job just fine and as good as any .20 or .22 calibre as long as you hit the correct kill area which is what Gary does easily . The long shot that Gary did last night, 43 metre (47 yards) for all you oldies that haven’t converted to metres yet was a cracker, just knocking that bunny over like it had been sniffing very strong sleeping gas :lazy: . A 47 yard bunny in the day would be a nice shot for most people, but to do it at night in a very dim red lamp was just amazing to watch. "]“You’re learning well my young Padawan” [/size]LOL . What also made it so good was that we didn’t laze the bunny until after it had been shot and it rolled over dead, so Gary had to estimate the range to it in the dark (which is hard to do) and then make the adjustment to his parallax before picking the correct mil dot to get a clinical shot . Hats off to you pal . At first I thought that Darryl had been affected by the black magic curse of YouTube’s (Dark Angel :wankerzo4:) , my Gothic best friend (NOT) until he impressed me with a long distance shot. He hit the bunny so accurately that I never even seen it die and roll over. The shot was taken at a lased 38 metres (41.5 yards) knocking it face first into the grass without even a kick from the nerves . On retrieval the bunny had been hit straight between the ears in the brain. It couldn’t have been better shot if you shot it at point blank range :headshot:: . It’s good to see that the curse of (Dark Angel :wankerzo4:) as been broken and that vermin are getting shot accurately again. Hopefully we will be able to get out again next week again, this time hopefully Reggaeman and Wuzzy will be able to make it as well . Here are some photos from last night. Marksman 934
Finally out of bed..... Cheers for doing the write up mate, and thanks again to Si for the chance to shoot on his permission again! It certainly wasnt my night......I couldnt even get my rifle zeroed properly due to my constant shaking/moving whilst taking the shot, so Si kindly sorted it for me. (Thanks yet again!) Thanks also for the compliments on my shots that actually hit I'm still cursing myself about that "perfect" opportunity of a side on bunny at 25M that I totally missed! Also realising my own mistakes of taking too long to adjust to the target and take the shot, confirmed by both Gary and Si but I think were too modest to tell me, something of which to be honest I would have welcomed as it's the guidance and help of others that also makes you a better shot. You can NEVER have too much guidance or tuition, no matter how long you've been shooting Here's my photos anyway As you can see....all 9 were taken with brain shots..... Darryl Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
It would be nice to see you there Chris buddy How you getting on with the .22 Ultra pal? or are you going back to your favoured .177? I understand if you both cant handle a real hunters calibre lads and the work needed in the range to shoot at all ranges accurately, and want to turn to the dark side like Gary as done . Flipping calibre traitors . Just kidding both of you Si Edited February 14, 2010 by zini Quote Link to post
