Well,me and the girlfriend were sitting in the house the other night,we didnt fancy going out so we ordered an indians and I nipped down the sikh shop for some drink.

When i got back she was looking through the DVD collection and pulled a DVD out and asks 'whats this about'?

'You wouldnt like it' i replied, its about irish lads, dogs, gambling and 'the blink'.

Yep she had pulled out the classic film 'Man about dog' :icon_eek:

Now here is where i have to explain about my girlfriend :wallbash:

Well, she is a bit of a hippy, travelled the world, studied in japan, has been to most asian countries, met loads of exotic locals in lots of different parts of the world. Studied different cultures, got degrees, blah, blah, blah :whistling:

I know you are thinking 'so whats an educated lass like that doing with donk'? Well, i dont know the answer to that myself, but anyway,i digress.

So she says, 'why wont i like it then'?

'Because' i said, 'its about the dogs, and the lads run the dogs at a coursing meeting, and you dont like coursing and hunting and most things related to such things'.

Anyway,we ended up watching it,and she f*****g loved it. Why? Because none of the hares got killed !!!!!!

And i asked her did she really think that all runs end in a kill?

She replied that the thought of an animal being ripped apart, blood and guts flying everywhere is a bit sick, which fair enough, it isnt everybodies cup o tea. But as i said to her, neither of my dogs actually rip anything apart,in fact my bitch brings rabbits back alive, which is quite handy at the end of the season/start of the spring as i can release milky does to provide more sport for next year.

But it got me thinking.do all anti-hunt people think that its all about killing? Guts being ripped out, blood everywhere?

I wouldnt go as far as to say my girlfriend is now going to come hunting with me,but it has educated her slightly, and thats got to be a good thing?

Im taking her around to mickys allotment to help clear up the dead chickens tomorrow, just to show her that old reynard isnt the same beast thats shown in the disney movies :clapper:

It is miseducation Donk - simple

I watched some of yesterday's 'Wildlife Hospital' or whatever it was called on the TV and was not surprised to see this do-gooder collecting RTA hedgehogs, deer and badgers etc, cuddling and talking to them and giving them names. He released a young roe that was clearly distressed - not from its ordeal - more from being cuddled and talked to - and squeaking and the chap said it was calling 'Mom' to find its mother .... that just about summed it up for me. They are WILD animals, not furry teddy bears with faces and personalities. They don't think rationally, they have no human emotions and they certainly don't converse with each other in the sense the GP thinks they do.

Read a story about a reporter who asked to accompany a gun along to a shoot, the gun wanting to prove that as shooters we are not just out to kill everything that moves agreed to take the reporter, on the first drive the reporter was constantly asking why the gun was not shooting rabbits and certain species of birds, when the gun replied by saying that a big emphasis was safety so the shoot doesnt allow the shooting of ground game and the birds she was pointing out were not on the list as legal to shoot she got a bit irrate, i think she thought she was going to be able to write a story about a merciless killer who goes out shooting every little thing that moves or breathes, instead she was given a lesson on how a well organised shoot runs, safety, quarry indentification, field craft and what birds are legally allowed to be shot. I didnt read her report but being a reporter id imagine it was written in a way that attacked the shooting world and anyone involved in it and not the way it should have portrayed it.

It's down to anti propaganda and misinformation. When I followed the local hunt a few seasons ago pre 2005, everybody I spoke to who had never seen a hunt remarked how I must be mad to want to see a fox ripped to shreds alive. Thankfully they were open minded enough to believe what I told them when I said that in my experience most foxes killed were put to ground, dug with the terriers and humanely dispatched with the .410.

Well i guess its up to us to re-educate the poor beggars?

As i say, i dont think i will ever make a huntress out of her,but then again would i want to?

I prefer to do my hunting by myself, its my time for myself.
