Best of luck with it, plenty long days in fields is best you can do to help settle them, I've a lot of admiration for them great wee lurchers if the mix comes out right but it is often a lottery especially when you start onto second crosses which out latest one is (Beddie/WhipXBeddie/Grey). birddog 1,354
just to add my tuppence guys, my collie cross which is almost 2 and very brainy loses all sense as her prey drive is so strong. a wee bit of luck and this will change as she matures, shes not had a season yet and this could help. personally id go more for brains in a pot filling type lurcher and leave the do or die trying for the out and out coursers. whip x grey 276
a brainy dog can have also lots off prey drive a stupid dog,,,,with loads of prey drive,,,,,,is an accident waiting to happen,,, seen a dog with loads off prey drive,,,but not much brains,,,split its self in two almost, on a tree stump,,,,,57stiches,,,,,20lb dog,,,,not a pretty site,,,,or vet bill,,,,,if she had any sence she would have run round that tree stump,,,,as previous dogs we had did in past as we ferreted the same place,,previous, for years and never had any trouble Quote Link to post
spep21 0
Defo alot of both, think I prefer more drive. Nice to see your dog trying 100% to catch or hold quarry. Quote Link to post
boyo 1,398
the line i mentioned at the start of this post had way above average prey drive and always gave 110% every time my kind of lurcher ive had all sorts over the years inc the ones that used their brains picking their runs and pulling up short because they knew it was a useless cause .well i can tell you this paticalar line caught plenty of useless causes through their drive and determination to catch their prey. i am notsaying the one kind is better than the other its all down to personal preferance and as shown on here allready theres loads of us with differant opinions on the subject. Guest fence_hopper
i like a dog that has drive, seen so many dogs jog half the lamp with rabbits next to the hedge and turn back, makes my blood boil Edited February 13, 2010 by fence_hopper Quote Link to post

Nice to see your dog trying 100% to catch or hold quarry. if your going out for long nights, your dog as got to slow down, thats where brain comes into it,you cant run a marathon flat out very true fella also the more experience the dog gets he learns to slow down to. Ideation 8,216
I wonder how much the answer to this question sums up the person. Maybe someone who wants all 'prey drive', a great desire to catch and kill and few brains is someone who does not respect intelligence but only desire to kill. Prey drive is important, but who wants a stupid dog? Their just a pain in the arse!. atb Jai. Quote Link to post
