Hi there boys and girls thought i would let you all know about my recent experience of devon / cornwall constabulary... I got my FAC about 18 months ago i had been shooting air rifles for ages but decided to take the plunge.

i was learning to stalk with a accredited witness so he helped me out with getting it granted in the first place with a polite letter to speed up my initial application.

since then i have been doing a fair bit of my own training - attendig a NVQ level 2 in game and wildlife management as well as completing my DMQ level 1.

I have picked up alot of ground recently and i decided it was time to get round to buying the stalking / foxing rifle i wanted - A Tikka T3 Lite in 6.5x55 with a wild cat mod.

so i sent off to get a variation as i had .308 but decided i didnt want that caliber. whilst i was at it, i sent off all my qualifications and a covering letter asking them nicely to open my licence as i feel i have the ground / experience / skills to be a safe shot. I also sent in pics of me in africa and pics of deer and fox's that i had shot just to prove the point. (thought this might be risky but it worked for me!)

i then rang and spoke with one of the senior team leaders to back up my letter, and the same day they agreed that i have put in the effort and that they will remove all restrictions!!! :boogie::boogie::boogie:

so to those who are unsure about whether they can get licences opened up here is my advice...do the training put the effort in, write a clear and consise letter to your firearms department and you might just get what you and wand ultimately what you deserve.

so here is what i have got and what i can use it for:

.22lr for vermin including fox

6.5x55 for fox and deer

peace. :toast:

.22LR for fox....dam right! if your out with your .22LR when your bunny bashing and charlie steps out your not exactly going to let him go especially when its coming up to lambing season! a quick way to loose ground me thinks!

its obvosuly not a foxing caliber - but for the "opportunistic fox" I need it on my licence so that i dont brake the law.

Always worth a try, the worst they can say is no, I tend to think some regions are a tad easier though, after all there are more sheep in Devon/Cornwall than people :whistling::whistling::whistling::whistling:

The Met is slightly different, although to be fair I rate their FEO's to be the best of a bad bunch from my experience, but still limited shooting land in the city!!

I will be interested to hear how you get on with the 6.5 :thumbs:

ATB!!!

I am just putting in a variation for 6.5x55 and also looking at a Tikka T3 Lite, I would be interested to know what price you can get them for when shopping about.

Still have the T3 Lite Stainless in .223, about 3 years old now, spent about the first 2 years trying to get it balanced (it always shot well but the balance was terrible)... sorted now and the balance is the best of all my centrefires, and it shoots cheap ammo well and home brews brilliantly.
