What to put over my bitch?

Recommended Posts

like you said this post was about a lad asking about what dog to put over his bitch so i have given my opinion on the cross i have bred for years and you big know it all boys come on here and insult me. well im sorry but i never said anythng about my dog being a world beater, i just said he was a good dog and has proven himself (no different than what everyone else says), there for in my opionion he would be a good cross for his bitch and i have seen this breeding before and it has been very sucessful.

You go on about how my blood throws heavey, he is 25tts and 24kg.....i have a 7 month old collie x grey with just 1/8th bull and she already makes him look small....she is as tall as him, heavier than him and alot wider across the back than him.

Dont come on here and slag off peoples opinions :censored: just because you dont like a breed.

Who has slagged your opinion off folk simply said why would you want to put a heavily base blooded lurcher across something that is nearly half base blood in the first place, i also fail to see how you have bred this cross for years your only 24 now,all a cross of yours would do across a 5/8ths 3/8ths bitch would do would make the cross more base blood than sight hound which most people try to stay away from as the less sight hound the slower and less pace and punch a dog has,as long as i can remember there has been a pair of belgian shepards on my parents small holding so i dont dislike the breed at all there good guard dogs, loyal, and obidient if i had seen something decent in them over other breeds ive had years and years to try the cross if i had wanted but i never did for one simple fact there is already better breeds out there more suited and tried and tested for base blood in a lurcher i simply fail to see what a belgian shepard can do what other breeds can do better its just my opinion so stop chucking your teddy out the pram i am sure your dogs are great working dogs and i am happy for you but i cant see every one rushing out and buying or breeding belgian shepard based lurchers anytime soon

I looked at this post when it first went up and guessed the outcome before it happened

Same 'ol story.... Put a/my world class collie, saluki, deerhound, poodle, yorkie, or a mix of all over it, go on I dare ya!!!

Truth is mate, don't fecking bother!

IF you can't suss out what YOU want from your dog over the next 10 years and from that then work out what the best cross to suit the bill would be, then don't, cause there is enough shite being bred without someone else adding to the mix, no matter how good your bitch may be.

If you must then, the old adage was, 'if in doubt, breed to a greyhound' but most sighthounds could fit the bill, it's common sense, first and foremost it's gotta run, work from there and see where that takes ya!

Thanks for all the replies  I've put a lot of thought into this and i've decided what cross to use,my first choice was originally a whippet/greyhound but after a lot of thought i've decided on putting a 3/4grey 1/4 collie over her and hopefully fingers crossed i've found the right dog.Once again thanks for all the input and advice(good and bad)yis...john

any greyhounds in particular (names) -just curious.there used to be an alsation lurcher (similar cross to your dog?.forgive my ignorance if not) in my village and it was an amazingly versatile worker.ive always wondered why more of them arent bred.(with turvereens its understandable as they are more rare) anyhow best of luck with your dogs
