A night with Zini

Small write up for you lot.....

Myself and Festa were invited by Zini to shoot on his permission last night(thanks again Si)!

It started off in Si's range for the usual zeroing session to check that everything was in working order and would do the necessary.

Here's Festa sighting, adjusting and confirming.....

Ok...All done and we were ready to hit the ground!

Gary drove whilst I lamped and Si did the shooting.

As we made our way round Zinis permission it's become apparent the bunnys were being very skittish and lampshy.

The first kill came about 20 mins in with a 37M shot by Zini to the neck as he pulled slightly as he squeezed the trigger, still a humane kill none the less.

About 2 hrs in came the second one, clinical brain shot from zero range just as the rabbit was attempting to climb back down the hole, the FX 16 grain saw it rolling down the hill.

I myself had one shot at a bunny from approx 35M but judging the distance in the dark being difficult I didn't apply enough holdover which saw the pellet land literally right at the rabbits feet sending it spiralling into the air and legging it as though it's life depended on it......which it did really!!

During the course of the night it was clear that Si wasn't his usual self when it came to marksmanship skills......missing easy 25-35m shots.......something was wrong!

Back to the range we went for Si to check his zero...... he was 6 clicks low!!!!

The only explanation was a possible knock to the rifle..... resetting back to his usual pellet on pellet style we headed back out for Si to claim another 3 kills taking our total for the night to 5

Here you go!

Thanks again to Si for a great night and the opportunity to shoot on his permission. Hopefully I will get another session in before your move

Good shoot and writeup mate. What sort of time did you head out and pack it in ?

Strange that the gun was 6 clicks under...

Headed out at about 8.15pm and sacked it at about 4.30am

Not really a great deal to show for the time, but like I said mate the bunnies were playing ball and the scope problems lost us about 45 mins

That’s a good write up Darryl mate and the photos have come out cracking pal  .

I think that you were nice to me though pal to tell you the truth :icon_redface: .

I think to be honest mate that I had the worst nights shooting that I have had in about the last 11 months, missing easy between 15 to 20 shots at un-miss able ranges which I normally would never miss and take with my eyes closed :censored: .

The last shot of the night was my last night’s nightmare and the one that I kept thinking about in bed to well gone 0600 hrs this morning.

It was a side ways on big buck rabbit sat at no more than 25 metres away in no cover

(Perfect for shooting)

I got out the car and had a steady shot at it rested on the roof and went over the top of it maybe piecing its ears, I’m not sure, probably not though as I was so sh*t  .

Bloody crap I was all night and like a blind man in a China shop, hence only 5 bunnies and 1 of them I couldn’t see through the scope but Gary and Darryl could so they directed me via my laser to where it was.

I still couldn’t see it but Darryl said the laser was on its eye so I just shot (as it was safe to do so) hitting it through the eye at 30 metres.

I never saw it until it rolled over on its back belly up, so I’m not counting that one as mine either  .

To make things worst I went out this morning and there in a tree at 20 metres was a big fat woody just sat side ways on to me.

I rested against a tree and give it 1 mil dot hold under as it wasn’t at a steep angle and missed the flipping thing  .

I’m sure the woody did the Matrix thing on me and moved its head left quickly dodging my pellet like a Ninja on steroids  .

I felt like throwing the HW100KT in the stream and leaving it there :wallbash: .

I then put out a target at 30 metres and had a shot at it to see what was wrong, "was it me or the rifle"?

Always blame the rifle when your sh*t, it’s a good call :D .

The pellet hit the centre of the bull first time so yet again it’s my bloody crap shooting  .

I think that I have been cursed by DarkAngel (My biggest fan NOT :D ) from YouTube to miss everything I shoot at from now on.

Oh well as I said last night mate “You win some and you loose someâ€, and last night and this morning I lost lots and lots.

Im going out later with the R10 to try and gain a few good clean kills, so as Arnie says

“Vermin I’ll be back†8) .

Thanks for driving me and lamping for me lads, it was very kind of you both .

I forgot to mension i also missed 2 bunnies at about 15 to 20 metres ending up 2 inches in front of their feet both times.

God knows how i ended up 6 click low, but plus the 1 mil dot hold under i gave them both it caused me to be well low.

I think that thay though i was giving them both a warning shot

True mate thats a good way to look at it.

Have a nightmare at shooting and still get 9 bunnies.

Cant be bad LOL  .

What about the other ones though Gary.

The one at 40 metres that i shot, when Darrly went to pick it up it jumped back onto its feet and legged it down a hole, that bunny was Jesus bunny or it was knocked out for a minute and then came round quick  .

Then the one that i shot on the bank next to the make shift base that was hit in the head but jumped down the flipping hole with its nerves never to be seen again.

What you doing tonight mate?
